Any decent shotguns for music?

Anybody used shotgun mics for music applications? Many of them are designed for vocal or video use and don't necessarily have a wide, smooth freq response or convey the timbre of instruments.

I want something I can use to spotlight soloists to bring them more upfront when recording an orchestra or choir from mid-hall in an (otherwise) standard two mic stereo configuration.

Good question. I've often wondered how they'd work out for isolating a kit in a live or 'one room' recording situation but I never pursued the idea.
