Any advice on troubleshooting M-308 VU Meters?

Greetings all,

My son picked up a pretty clean Tascam M-308 recently with a few issues that I have repaired with the exception of the 4 VU meters for the input channels. I know nothing of audio equipment but I am pretty decent with old electronics and after replacing a few caps and cleaning some contacts I have the previously 'bad' channels working but those 4 meters don't work. They are getting power, they light up, and when powered on they do budge slightly but don't 'peg' to the upper range the way the other two VU meters do. Any advice on troubleshooting this? Any common failures to check? I just found the schematics for this unit and I will dig into it later, but I figured I should check here in case someone has BTDT and knows what to check first. Any advice is greatly appreciated :thumbs up:

....

The meters are for the 4 Busses, not the inputs, so you'd have to have an input signal coming in on the channel and assigned to the busses before any meter will respond.

Maybe you could double check your settings on the board and describe better exactly what the meters are/are not doing.

If you determine it's really more of a hardware issue than settings and configuration, check all the fuses and look for loose connectors.

Thanks much for the response, very helpful. I will check it out and report back. I was wondering if that might be the case but I only know the electronics side of this thing, not how to use it.
