What do you recommend I use for an antivirus, I want one that doesn't hog the system resources.

I've been using nod32 which has been ok, i might buy that again, or can you recommend a better one or free one?

cheers

+1 for Avast. Better on my machine re CPU load when scanning than AVG was.

Is Avast

just a 90 day demo, or is it just a demo until you register for a free key?

AVG just isn't the same anymore.

The two best ones out there free are avast and avira.

On this PC here I run Avast, SAS, and MBAM(best program for malware) with COMODO firewall.

On the PC downstairs Avira and MBAM with COMODO is running.

+1 for Avira. AVG is a major hog these days - used to be great but it seems they've got the plot wrong somewhere. I use Avira free and it really does its job without being to apparent.

yup you can't go wrong with Avira or Avast.

Avira flat out has the fastest scan times and it's done before you know it. But the Malware prtoection isn't the greatest. Not a problem though when your running MBAM.

Avast has a great simple user interface and does a great scan job. Plus it has real time protection and the avast anti-virus screen saver is definitely a plus.

Just as important as what you get, may be how you set it..........

Keep in mind, antivirus programs tend to costantly run in the background and many start scanning the minute you turn your PC on, so whatever you get make sure you have at least the option to manually scan when and where you want as well as completely turn the program off when needed so it wont hog resources during any important project.

+1 Both of the above are fully customizable.

AVG went wrong when it merged with another anti-virus company.

So far I have been using AVG free (which you can turn off completely if you want - and I do want - when you're not using it) and SpyBot S&D which IMO is the best freeware out there. I'll give Avast another try, I didn't seem to like it much the last time, but it's been a while.

Also if you are running windows then consider using WinPatrol - this lil prog has saved me a few times , like during an install (from an application on Facebook) that tried to put all sorts of malware crap in I had definitely said "no thanks" to in the setup window - WinPatrol let me know that something was trying to change my registry, and asks if you want to go ahead with it or not.

It also gives you the ability to disable things that consume resources right away when you boot up... You usually don't need most of them until you want to use them, right?

AVG used to be good back when it was 7.5. AvG 8.0 just isn't the same anymore, and they stopped supporting 7.5 updates. Winpatrol is a nice program but in its self it's also running in the background. Everybody should be running Ccleaner. This is a completely free program that has disk cleanup, uninstall, etc. etc. all rolled into one. It also disables (and does it right the first time) and delete's anything on your startup list that you choose. Just never use the registry tool in it, but then again you shouldn't ever use a registry cleaner anyways.
