Massive Master

www.massivemastering.com
So, there's another "mastering" place ripping stuff off of my site... (Why is it always the freaks?) At least this time, it's just text (you may remember one of the others who actually put photos of my setup AND used most of my gear list on his site).

Most has been removed already, and I'm planning no further action.

Anyway, not mentioning the site (this is embarassing enough, I think), here's an image (studio name blurred to protect the not-so-innocent) that speaks... Well, "Volumes" is a good word I guess.

Note the "massive difference to the quality and percieved [sic] loudness" line. That's a helluva difference alright. Comments on what it might sound like anyone?

NOTE: There was some confusion on another forum - This is NOT from MY site. The "perp" involved here was ripping text from my site, and I noticed this little work of art while checking to see that my text was removed.

That's not "massive" enough.... there's still plenty of room for the first and fourth sections to be levelled-off and "improved" too......... what an amateur!!!!!!! ;) :p

:D :D

I always leave the quiet bits quiet. Thats what they are there for. It gives dynamics to songs. I know what you are saying, but i would leave those bits and just make sure they had a good level in mix down rather than changing it at mastering stage.
That company will master a CD by limiting and normalizing it. Waohy, that sounds like a waste of money.

Gee, John, I used to have some respect for you, but, damn: that first clip could almost be mistaken for music! I agree with Bruce on the second. I'll bet I could turn that puppy into an adobe brick* without half trying.

Adobe, get it? Oh, you don't use Audition?

I'm just embarrassed after all this time not to have known that my vertical zoom tool could add such 'slam' and 'impact' to my tracks. :o

well, i'm sure at least they'll make a difference to the quality of your recordings...

Lookin pretty.......MASSIVE.........

Looks like the majority of commercial pop CDs I see. What's slightly different here is that the low sections haven't really been boosted. Seems like the guy just ran a limiter over the whole thing rather than trying to increase the average level by working in compression with the limiting.

The real question is what does it sound like? Louder yes, but better quality? What the figure doesn't show is frequency balance, phase, imaging, and a host of other issues we face in mastering.

Holly sh*t. The frame sizes are the same. I got caught on an optical illusion.
Just kill me now. Get it over with.

If the quality on that thing gets any more massive, I suppose we're going to have alot of rupturing headphones....

DING DING DING!!! That's exactly what I was getting at. "SMASH" and that's it.

And of course, I can't even see in the first place how a "visual" can tell you much of anything about the sound quality.

So,...

it's a graph of sound being seriously clipped. What's the big deal of that?

Ah, John. When will the ringing and voices in my head stop? :)

So much misinformation and bullshit, so little time...
