Well, once again the preamp question has come up. I'm using a Mackie CFX 16 patched out to my MOTU 24i for digital recording. As said before in other threads, I want to color the sound using a preamp. Can anyone point me a direction to where i can hear examples of different preamps being used? I'd be willing to spend $1000 dollars, plus or minus a few. Though, I'm not going to base the purchase on the fact that more expensive means better. Also, how does preamp on this Mackie rate, say on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being the worst?

Any advice, comments, etc. will be well appreciated.

I think you'll be quite happy to know that the M-Audio DMP2 Stereo Mic Preamp/Direct Box can be found for $200 and its preamps outperform the preamps found on the Mackie VLZ Pro series, see for yourself:

The DMP2's are actually incorporated into the OMNI Studio I/O (the goofy interface wth A/D & D/A converters and all), I've personally been deciding between a Seasound Solo Ex and M-Audio Omni Studio for a while now. I hope this is informative.

Seasound

Hey, I would avoid the Seasound if you think you'll ever need more inputs, its not expandable as far as I'd like. I nearly bought one also, and thier tech support told me that they wouldnt expand as far as I'd like, and that they weren't going to write WDM drivers for it.
JUst letting you know,
Paul
