OK,

Assume you have two speakers that are essentially the same in all ways except:

One is a 12" speaker that can handle a 250W program and the other is a 15" speaker that can handle a 200W program...

Which is louder?

The 12" has a higher wattage, but the 15" has a larger cone...

Or am I comparing apples and oranges?

I'm still just trying to understand how this all works.

Thanks!

Given the same amplifier powering each, which will be louder will depend completely on the efficiency, and also the impedance of each speaker system.

The size of cone and the power handling ratings alone will not tell you a thing about the relative loudness of one speaker versus another.

the spl ratings will tell you how loud each speaker will be with the same power.

but the bigger cone will usually give you the fuller sound.
