Scot,

I listened again with fresh ears this morning and I still find it a really cool track to listen to. The test for me is always can I listen from start to finish and am I left wanting more when the track ends. The answer is yes and yes.

I really like this track, personally I would not change the speed/tempo, it is just fine for me. No sure what you should add but will happily continue to review any changes to it, PM me if you like, it is easy to get lost in these forums, cheers.

Peter

Just noticed you called me Scot...I meant I'm Scottish you crazy Ozzie..my names Keith :)

I lived in Surrey Hills in Sydney for a year..wonderful city...my friends run the news on your PBS channel (can't remember what the channels called now) :)

Wow...this is so different from your other one. Stylistically, quality of the mix, etc....overall, just much better :)!

I think the whole instrumental backing sounds are quite nice...drums have maybe a bit too much sizzle?...I dunno, as it is, kind of cool being crisp like that. The vocals are nice, but I did find the speaking and singing being done simutaneously to be distracting or off in some measure. Not bad, and maybe just a preference thing, but not quite right to me. Would prefer them to be separated more in some way.

Anyway, a cool recording...sounds original to me and I enjoyed it:D.

Thanks man!

maybe if I try to pan them more?..I put the speaking in the centre of the mix and maybe that's not right...they are different in timing so maybe that's what's off putting..

I wish I could settle on a style though..I want to put myself firmly in the early eighties with a modern slant but there are just too many good sounds that came after that period...my next ones different again...still it's the early stages yet :)

But yeah compared to my other mix its night and day...though synths are much easier to mix than live instruments...so I'm finding out ;)

Lol! I said in my 1st post that I thought the voice sounded Irish, close to scottish I guess. I misread your post about being A Scot, haha.

I am in Surry Hills quite often, not too far from the hood. Where are you located at present?

Hey, if you get a chance, would love to hear your opinion of my track posted under new mix for the CANS. I am getting pretty good reviews for this track and am considering it as a launch track for my band, maybe just needs a few more tweaks.

Busy day today, F1 Japan & local Rugby League Grand Final, no music today.

Cheers

Peter

I'm listening to whatever is up today & in hi fi stream.
This is REALLY cool - reminds me of when Human League were experimental (remember Being Boiled) but with some edges smoothed .
I like the way the voices are placed against each other - tension is good.
after 4 mins I wanted the spoken voice to return as it becam a bit mellow (like I said tension is a good thing).
No Rugby League grandfinal in my house - the missus is a Roosters fan.
I look forward to hearing & downloading the finished work.

I'm in Toronto until December then the sunny States for a while...I had some good times in Oz...especially when we turned up at the national park across from Palm beach on the last ferry..

when we got off the ranger noticed our slabs of VB but after hearing our accents he let us bring them into the park as long as we tided the empties...as we were walking away he asked where our tents were...man that was a cold wet.. but drunk night lol

going to check your song out now

why thanks Ray..its great if folks are picking up an early eighties vibe..I need to find my sound...the edges are possibly too smooth but I'm still a novice with effects etc I have some more lyrics but I'd have to cut something...its over 5 mins now and would likely bore the pants off the listener if it got much longer :D

I LOVED the title! The song was very good and I did like the singing and words, but it did get a little hard to follow a time or two. I was wondering who to listen to. I think the phone idea would be cool. Very original. Have a point or two on me!

the singing needs to be sorted..cant think how to do it but I've agreed with every comment on it...kinda hard to decipher the lyric when one comes in over the other..Ill try some experimenting during the week..maybe keep the speaking in the middle and have the singing lower in the mix with some auto panning??

thanks for taking time to comment and listen

The female voice is dissonant in spots (for me at least). It's a good patch but that part takes away the coolness for a sec. But what do I know?? I only play major and minor :D.

I do like the two main vocals - I know Rayc has had difficulty with Miriam singing two parts on his tune so you're not alone. I have no suggestion - just play around with it until you find something that allows both to express themselves. It's really close now so not much tweaking needed. You picked a tough arrangment with two overlapping vocals - like I said I've seen this challenge before.

What we could use is a sample of a pop tune that uses two vocals so we could analyze it.

Love the rest of the tune - DJ scratch. telephone, synths etc... Lots of strength in this tune and like I said it's close to perfect.

I'll look for a new mix in the next little while....:cool::cool::cool:

why thanks....never thought it would be difficult to do but it is for me...cant think of a double vocal similar but you are right...that would be the way to resolve it

and i got a new word "dissonant"..lacking harmony...its a couple of samples put together and works more by accident than design..

so now where's that elton john/kiki dee track I was going to dissect lol :)

I think the lyrics are quite clear even when sung over each other. Everyones brain is wired differently I guess. Perhaps you track will form the basis of future psychologial assesments to filter out serial killers, lol.

When will you be making more changes to it? I like it as it is but am keen to hear it develop. You better not screw it up mate, there will be a lot of posters here down on you like a ton of bricks, lol. Feel the pressure?! :)

Thanks so much for all your detailed comments on my mix, you are a champ.

haha cheers Peter...crazy bloody Aussies :)

No changes just now...Ive got a monstrosity of a track I want to stick vocals on next week so Im working on the lyrics and some guitar parts...sick of hearing it anyway lol

You now have a 5 Star rating on Soundclick, cheers mate.

Peter

There's a very vivid Thomas Dolby goes to Afghanistan vibe to this.....freakin loved it. I can't comment much on the mix right now...I'm at work and I have a pair of Tannoy PBM 6.5's in here, but paired with a very suspect amp. I hear some faint distortion on the low-end....riding the 808-ish kick. Might just be my amp.
I think the layers work vocal wise...I didn't have any problem following the line I chose, but the listener does have to pick one...once he realizes they are really the same lines, he'll relax with it. If that's your intent then you are teh win!!111
I might have passed on the guitary lead....Tune cries for a sitar.
I like the soundfield...seems broad enough and deep enough for the vox lines to lay on each other. I personally dug the dissonance of the female vox lines.

Nice job, man. I'm a fan.

After just listening to the quality of your recording Im very flattered by your comments...thanks mate...much appreciated..

A sitar would have been nice but then Id have to drop singing about closed factories and start singing about falafel and crude oil :)

I thought Id tamed the kick...it may be your set up at work...or it may be that I didnt tame the kick...lol

Thanks again

You've got to encode your MP3's to 128kbps before uploading.

No you don't. I upload all of my stuff as 320 and let SC bash them down to 128.

Vocals and lyrics mean nothing to me, so I'm fine with the vocals just the way they are. I don't care about or want to hear what you're actually saying anyway. :D

I think the mix is busy but layered pretty well. I'd like to hear more bottom end across the mix. This was barely pushing my woofers at all. If you're gonna have that gay scratching in there, make the bass thump. ;)

up yours punk boy :D

seriously thanks for listening...I'm sure all those keyboards were hurting your ears :)

Nah it wasn't too bad. I'll never listen to anything from you again, but this was okay. :D

Just kidding homeslice. ;)

Cool Song, KC,

Love the dissonant female vox. The concept for the song is pretty cool and my only nit is that the voice over in front of the vox has a little too much verb and may sound better as a whispered voice instead of like a guy reading a poem.

This is a genre all of its own, sort of. I'd like to hear more of it - kind of like Annie Lennox meets Enigma.:D

Wig:)

Annie Lennox hahaha....Im sure she was a bloke anyway :)

thanks Wig..for listening and the cool comments
