I've had my new monitors about a month now but haven't had a chance to mix on them until now. Life keeps getting in the way of music. Here is the link. www.nowhereradio.com/gregkat The song is "want" Any comments would be helpful.

good tune

good tune, I dig the strings... the mix sounds pretty good over here except that the vocals are a bit too low.. I would bring up the vocals because they are very good imop.. I have the same problem, but your voice is actually good so I would turn them up.. Mainly in the beginning... a little Elvis Costello in your voice I think..

good tune, turn up the vocals..

Thanks for the kind words sabbath. I always seem to do that with my vocals. To me, I felt they were a bit too loud. When I record other people they always want me to pull their vocal down and I always say trust me.

Really good tune Greg.I REALLY like your voice and I agree with Sab,the vocal needs to come up a little or maybe EQ them a little bit to make them cut through the mix.

Nice melody and I like the way you used all the different guitar parts. It all works really well.

The rhythm section sort of has a "Toad The Wet Sprocket" feel to it.It has an airy sound to it that I dig.

Nice job.;)

sounds pretty decent to me, Like its almost there but not quite

The vocal level sounds nice as it is, and the singer's voice is decent.

overall, a decent effort.

funk on!

This sounds very good to me. I think the vox levels are good in the "larger"sections but could come up maybe a db in the verses. I'm still adjusting to new monitors as well. But this is a VERY good sounding song to me. Nice job to all those involved.

BTW, I really dig the strings at the end, from the point they enter through the point they take over. Nice touch.

Nice song. I liked the progression and intrumentation. Vocals are excelent (if not a tad too low) and the ending is quite moody and fitting.

Great job!

Theron.

Nice song, I really liked the vocal delay effect at the start of the verses. Overall it sounds very good.

There is something I can't put my finger on though, the vocals seem loud enough but just don't cut through sometimes.

The singing is excellent!

Paul

Thanks to everyone for the compliments. SLuiCe, I think your right, I will try a slight boost in the verses. I'm surprised no one has asked what the new monitors are. Dynaudio Bm6a's, I upgraded from Event 20/20 bas. Although I really liked the Events, I couldn't be more pleased with the Dynaudios. It seems like no more guesswork especially in the low end.

the song just takes off at 1:28...and continues on. I love the high vocal parts(where you do the octave jumps). just great. bottom end seems fine to me too.

the strings are nicely done, written, etc. but there is a dissonance that is not similar to the rest of the song. ...whether that is intentional or not [I'd like to know!]. I'd prefer something a little 'gentler' on my mind (and not the Glen Cambell stuff, thank you...as fine a guitar player he is.....where am I going with this:confused:  )

wow!!!!!!

great tune!

your voice is superb my man, i'd have to get kicked in the nads to go that high, and i would still sound like a cat in a vice! im green with envy

peace

rick:eek:

I like the mixing. Maybe the sound lacks some mid-range stuff, like some nice keyboard sweep. The drums are mixed very good and all the instruments sound good. The singing is good too. The song sounds like a basic pop song. It does have its moments. I'm not too keen of the constant "behind" drum beat. I mean, it works, but not when the whole song is based on it, I think. But what do I know :D ?

mixmkr, I know the part you are referring to though I don't think it is real dissonance. The song is in C and the string quartet part are still in C. The beating you hear is the viola and cello a half step from each other that is emphasized by a similar sample loop. It bothered me a little also but I liked the tension so I left it alone.

fenderlikingood, Yeah it is kinda high, I did three takes and that was it, My voice was shot for the rest of the day.

CrankyOne, I can see how the "off" snare can get a little tiresome. I tried to break it up with the toms in the chorus section. The drum rhythm was copped sort of from Radioheads' "knives out"

Thanks for listening,

Greg

aaah...so there IS someone who frequents here who is INTENTIONALLY writing with minor seconds....or are those flat 9's? for shame, for shame, for shame...
:D :D :D
