Here is my try

Great tracking made the mixing a lot easier :-)
Nice tune !

You forgot to mix the vocals! :D

Well they would have ruined the mix :-)
I just didn´t like them and I followed timberthetortoise advice:

"I will say, the vocals are optional. It was very rushed and the band broke up "before we could even finish the vocal tracking, so it's definitely rough. If you "don't feel like putting them into your mix, don't. If you feel like recording new "vocals, go for it. Really, do whatever you want in your mix. Have a blast with it "and hopefully learn some of what NOT to do when recording bands!

And thats what they sounded like .... unfinished and not fitting into the mix
I was thinking about recording new vocals, but I guess it would have been worse than the original ..... maybe I´ll give it a try later :-)

here is like a 7min mix let me know if you like it I didn't do it on my monitors http://www.lightningmp3.com/live/file.php?fid=11087

I dont like the drums very much :-)
Well the snare has no punch and clarity ... too dull
the cymbals need some cutting around 8000-9000 they are too bright
the kick and the toms sound good !

The guitars and bass are good , guitars could need a few highmids 2000-2600

The vocals are a bit too loud but fit in.....

Just my opinion :-)

Dirk

here's my f'd up, pitch shifted, arty mix! you're all gonna hate it but I'm pretty into it!

Hate is a strong word....

....but I turned it off pretty quick, heh...

I think your attitude about it is really admirable, though - honestly.

Fala, your mix sounds pretty good, man. I had about an hour today to play with this, and this is where I got with it: http://eteximports.com/TyphoidHippo's_AFM_Mix.mp3

That vocal track is seriously *fucked* - hahaha....but it wouldn't have been any fun to do the mix without it. ;)

This was fun, thanks timthetortoise!

Can anyone say something about my mix please:)?
It's in Post#10 here is the link again http://www.lightningmp3.com/live/file.php?fid=11061
Thanks:D

Hi,

Sorry but I don´t like your kickdrum :-)
Its a bit too loud in my opinion and a little bit too bright, but thats just how
I feel !
You could turn down the vocals just a bit and maybe take away some around 200-350Hz in the overallmix ! There is some mud, not much !

I like your mix the most, compared to the others !
But its a bit overcompressed like most of the mixes, but its still OK !

thanks vaquero verbal for the reply
Do you really think that the vocals are loud?
After I listen to the other mixes I started to think that mine was a little quiet on the vocals. And about the kick, when I listen again to the mix after, I posted, I felt that it could be a little loud, but just a little. Is it too loud or is it that you don't like the sound?
Still waiting for comments:D

Maybe the vocals aren´t too loud but its like they are masking parts of the mix ! Just a bit. I can´t tell exactly what it is , but "I" would turn them a bit down !

Kick: Its a bit too prominent and I dont like that kind of bright kicksounds.
But its just a subjective point of view !!!

Thanks Again Vaquero Verbal.:)
I will try to fix it, and when I'm done I'll make you know.;)
Bye

Thought I would wake up this old thread. I downloaded the tracks when they were first posted, but have been too busy to play with them since then. I just forced the time into my day yesterday, and, of course, most of the mixes to compare to are gone now. :( This is only my second digital mix, done with a mouse and Cubase LE, my first digital recording system. I plan to play around with this a bit more when time permits (again). I haven't done any mixing since about the mid '70's, so this digital stuff is new to me. I recently purchased a Presonus FireStudio, to which, when time permits, I will be adding more units so that I can start doing some location type recording, which is what I find the most interesting recording to do, especially since I am not a musician myself. I had a studio in the mid '70's but was hired away from myself by my equipment supplier. :( While I got to work with some interesting folks, many of whom you have probably heard of, I still consider it a bad career move on my part. Find me more files to mix so that I can continue learning my Cubase. :D Anyway, enough of the filler, here's the mix. Feel free to comment on this old analog guy's second digital mix. http://media.putfile.com/AMF-Mix
