Another Condensor Comparison - RODE NT2 vs. NT1000?

I know the NT1000 is newer than the NT2, and at first I thought that it was replacing the NT2. Looking at the specs the two mics seem pretty similar...so, what is the difference? NT2 runs about 100 bucks more...is it worth the price?

They sound very dif. Go to the store and listen to them. The NT2 has alot of air, a classic scoop and sizzle sound...which is beautiful and is made for vocals,,, the classic condenser sound. The NT1000 is more diverse, more balanced, more accurate ...can be used for more applications. Sounds amazing on vocals and everything else. Not as scooped and not as much sizzle.

gidge - yep, i am a big prorec reader. thats how i got turned onto rode initially..great article. prorec forums were used before i found out about this place..this place is GREAT.

btw gidge - "thewheelsonthebus"...is that your kid? cutest thing i've ever heard. kid has serious pitch ability. hehe

NT2

I'm the kind of guy that does much research before spending $ on gear. I tried every mic known to man I think. (not really but alot of them). NTK, NT2, NT1000, U-87, C-1, B-2, All the Audio Technicas, Most of the Shures, Marshalls, AKG's... and on and on and on. I truly thought that the NT2 sounded best for MY VOICE. And it does sound great. I run it thru a Joe Meek VC3Q and love it. One of the Audio Technica's came in a close second but it cost $200 more anyway. I can't remember which one it was, it was a "vintage" take off from the other mics. Something like the 4047? (it was dark grey instead of black) Anyway the NT2 still was a little nicer. Got mine at Guitar Center for $300. I found an American Musical Supply catalog where they were blowing them out for that price and had G.C. match the price. Good Luck. Some advice on this forum is great, some not so great. Use your ears............

I do the same thing anytime I buy a mic. I even go back over known territory, trying mics Ive heard in the past with dif pres before commiting. Anyway, I think the incredible sound of the NT2 is in the scoop. Something about what it does to the mid mid range is fantastic and I havent found it on any other mic.

I can entertain myself for hours singing into an NT2.

ok...my question now is, what in audio terms is "scoop"? There are so many elusive descriptions like that out there. what in your opinion is it sonically? NT2 is definately sounding nice...i will have to go listen soon.

Do you guys think that listening with a good pair of headphones is the best way to test a mic in the store?

At that price range, the nt2 is THE mic. I have always liked tracks cut with it, either female or male vox. It sounds really good.

I love my NT2, but I honestly haven't had a chance to compare it to many others recently. When I bought it I shopped around for a while, but this was back before the V67, C1, B2, and all them other fancy schmancy cheapo mic's were around. I had planned on an NT1 until I heard the NT2, and I wouldn't let myself listen to any of the more expensive Rode models, for fear of spending mo money.
