some people go away...some people come back...some people come back really angry!!
Its been waaaay to long since I've been here! Hope you all can lend your ear and help me out on this one...all comments would be greatly appreciated!!

what a cool song!!!!!!!

The recording sounds better than some of the stuff you put up last time, but still has problems.. The guitars need some brightening, and the vocals have the sound that I used to get when I sang through a guitar processor.. The bass drum disppears when things kick in fully.. the cymbals are loud enough, but the drums sound further away than the guitars and vocals.. I like the way she sings, and all that chorus on the vocals sounds good, but the vocals sound overall could be a lot better.. Maybe if the music was mixed better.. It sounds live..

good song regardless of the recording!

I liked the contrast of the yelling voice and the other
almost orbison-like vocal in comparison.
Loads of energy captured here.

Kinda' an Evanescence (sp?) vibe here.

Sam covered most of the mix stuff. I'd really like the screams to be even more aggressive...as it is, it sounds like a 13 year old boy screaming instead of a female singer.

Great voice/vocal otherwise, and a cool song with some better than decent production ideas.

ROCK!
:D

appreciation

Thanks guys!!! The comments help the songs soooo much!! I don't know what I'd do without your ears...well...I'd have some crappy sounding songs!!!

Here are the changes I made to hopefully help the sound:
1) I doubled the bass drum track and cut out the 80hz and 400hz area in the bass guitar and guitars...this seemed to help bring the bass drum out a bit more when it all comes together
2) As for the screams...CHRIS!!! How did you know I hired the 13 year old paper boy to fill in??? Actually...its tough to get a folk singer at heart to belt out some angry screams...regardless...I had some chorus on the screams and I took those off since they tamed it a bit...its still not real angry sounding...but whats a folk singer gonna do???

I hope this one sounds a little bit better...thanks again for the comments...and definately keep hammering the mix so I can attempt at getting it right!!

oh...and another thing

I also bumped up the guitar eq a smidgeon between 2 and 7khz...and
I took off most of the 'metal tank' reverb on the snare...that was giving it too much of that 'live' sound and making the snare sound too far in the background I think.

Love the screaming bits. Maybe a bit of distortion on those parts would "dirty" it up a bit?

Also, I'd like to hear the delay a bit more on the screams. Maybe a wee touch more reverb too?

Love the chorus-y guitar riff. I think the timing "drags" a wee bit occasionally on the riff?

There's some extraneous noise before the big guitars come in - it would be worth muting the tracks until they start. Also, I can hear occasional coughs and throat-clearing on the vocal tracks. At least, I think I can. :)

There's an obvious pop around 2:40. I love the rising screaming just after that bit.

The heavy guitars sound much more "part of the mix" on the second version.

Very good singer, good song.

Cheers

funny noises

Yup...you are right AB!! lol...there are a few noises in there still...I thought I got them all.
Very keen ears you have just before it all kicks in at the beginning...and there is a cough
or throat clearing in the first break...I agree with what you said about the screams and
dirtying them up a bit more...and maybe increasing the delay a bit...thanks for your
comments...they really help a lot!!!
As for the pop at 2:40...I couldn't hear it...I wonder if its an artifact of the upload or download...I really tried to hear it...
If anyone else hears this pop....let me know!!! Thanks again AB..

ggggggreat guitar sound....
that guitar riff is cool..drums sound pretty damn good .. i remember when you first started posting ....you have gotten sooo much better i mean this isnt perfect but leaps and bounds better...nice work...the almost inaudible chanting vocal sounds great .....i REALLY like that part...(1:54)..i hear a couple of minor timing errors drum wise ...just barely lagging behind the beat ...its more obvious when there isnt as much going on like right after the chanting part...

Listened to ver.2 - The guitars sound bigger and better. I'm a drum dumbass, but they're not bugging me...it's like you kind of have to make a choice; you can either have big drums and big guitars, or big guitars and big vocals, or even big vox and big drums, but you just can't have it all, eh? Personally, I always side in favor of guitars and vocals, so I think the mix coming along nicely.

Man, I hardly ever do this, but I'm gonna' come right out and say that the singer needs to stick to singing. Can you get a guy to do the screams?...preferably through a bullhorn or something? The idea is so cool that the screams HAVE to stay, but the screamer needs to be more pissed off; and sound more like a 5 pack a day smoker who's been turning tricks for about a decade to support her crack habit. THAT'S the sound, lol.

Seriously, maybe I'm the only one, but the "screams" are so tame to my ears that it just drags the tune down...can YOU scream? You're a guy, right? SCREAM IT!!!

Alternatively, I think you might try going in the other direction on the FX on her screams...with them all dry, they just stick out more to me, and you already know how I feel about her screaming, right? LOL...seriously, in that department, I think the first version was cooler. I'd add chorus and maybe a flange and a vocoder and a lo fi vinyl/bullhorn thing and about a week and a half of delay and just mangle the screams so freaking much with FX that you can't even tell it's a human doing it...

or you scream it, lol.

All nits aside; I gotta' agree with Jamal...(it's like a law or something)...you've come a long way.

Dig the singer, but the FX on the vox during the screams needs to be tamed down.Let the scream come thru more...Cool song, lacks production.Needs a guitar solo...new metal SUCKS cuz there are no indulgent guitar solos. It gets boring when it's just riffing, trying to be heavy, with no screaming leads it don't cut it.Decent work.Mix has issues ,gets a little fuzzy sounding at times.

screams and solos!

Hey Chris...I'll work on the screams...maybe I'll give it a whirl...didn't really
think of that...
W.I.S.C. Thanks for the comments...but regarding the solo stuff...well...I'm not
really a guitar player...or anything for that matter...and hence the simplicity of
my songs. Maybe if I find someone who wants to rip in a shred or something
I can add it in...but as of now...its just simplistic me playing the music.

peaches and scream

ok Chris...you put me up to the challenge and I don't think I'll be able to talk normally for a week!!
I hammered some aggresive effects on her tracks, and then I also gave it a try. When I did it, I sang (sang...yeah right) yelled through a vaccum cleaner tube through my guitar amp on distortion...on my track...the timing is a little off on one of them....its just to see what you think.
The tracks are very short...just one section...so give em both a listen and see what ya think!!
