And today's American mass shooting....

Freakonomics. Canada has fewer people that California.

"Gun culture" isn't the reason we have mass shootings. American culture is why we have mass shootings.

Gun enthusiasts are probably the most law-abiding citizens the USA has got, which is why you don't get a lot of mass shootings at the range.
Odds are you've never known someone who went on to commit a mass shooting nor do you know anyone who does know such a person.

This is because as a class of crime they're extremely rare but get hyped by the media - well, unless they're committed by someone who doesn't fit a particular profile and political persuasion.

The vast majority of *gun crime* as a whole which dwarfs mass shootings in frequency and victim count is committed by one particular segment of "American culture".

Sad but true. Yet somehow this vividly illustrates the departure from what are called - for better or worse - traditional values.

"American culture in a nutshell."

Um, that particular concert with the sea of exuberant audience members is in Sydney Australia.

Serendipity - that kind of show isn't my cup of tea just because I don't like being packed in with masses of people but what do you see as being wrong with it in particular? Just seems like a bunch of people having a good time watching a show. She's certainly a gorgeous girl but by modern standards Taylor's stage costumes are quite modest - this is as "racy" as her outfits get. They would pass muster in a 1940s movie. Not even a visible belly button.

It's been suggested that a Taylor Swift concert in Australia somehow embodies all that's dark and evil about "American culture" and is connected to mass shootings.

You guys might want to think about walking that one back.

Look at American television and film. It's almost always "good guy with gun does job the police or CIA or whatever won't." Nearly every problem is solved with a gun. Murder after murder after murder, but not a nipple to be seen.

Look at American urban "respect" culture. Look at American prison culture. "Come and Take It." "Don't Tread on Me." Consult any western.

Shit, look at the way we drive. Every single one of us has had a "road rage" encounter or participated in one.

There are a lot of poor people in the US and for many, respect is all they have. They are willing to kill you over it. Does that sound normal to you?
It is Americans living vicariously through the media.
