Here's the scoop. I have a basement studio based around an HD24. A good friend of mine has a VERY large space (an old steel factory) that he leases for his business and has offered me use of some of it. Now I don't want to move my basement studio there but I do have my old StudioMaster 8 buss console sitting around doing nothing that I could set up there. That means I'd have to make the HD24 mobile. And there's the rub. I want to put it in its own road case with a patchbay for the INPUTS only and the outputs on three 25 pin D-sub connectors. That would be 8 cables each. To pick it up and run would require disconnection these three D-subs, 6 lightpipe cables and a Word clock cable. I hate the idea of adding a mechanical connection but what the hell, they're all through the studiio anyway and the D-subs seem pretty resilient and have the two screw hold downs so they seem secure. Anyone see the down side of this that I'm missing?

i am really interested in something like this too. if you go ahead with it, post pics...

Is the mobile location for tracking only? You might be able to get away with a simplified setup and the reserve mixing for your home studio

For example just run the 8 busses to the HD, and a limited # of tracks, say 8 or 16, back to the board. Then you only need the 3 Dsubs.

Buy a second hd24 then all you're carrying are mics and drive caddies.

I'm not very helpful sometimes. :D

I hope you find a good solution though.

Wait until June and get one of these for mobile applications:

Leave the HD24 in your home studio.

Trackrat, I second the buy the 2nd HD24 if funds permit. That is what I do. I have #2 in a road case with 3 octopre's and a few compressors for live gigs or even if the odd remote recording comes up..like a drummer that does not want to move his gear but MUST use his gear. I hate unhooking!

Well, I've began the soldering. I'm in no hurry so it'll probably take a week or two. And if I don't like it I can always put it back the way it was.
