Sounds great Sam!

I missed the first version, but the vocals are right there on this one.
Your performance makes it Shine!:D

The guitars were great,as always.

I thought the drum sound was a little flat,no bite to it.JMHOP

The backround treats were cool, fit real well.
Is the E-bow in there somewhere,3:44?

Cool stuff!

Pete

Hey man... sounds killer... I just took a listen now so I didn't hear the first one. You have a kewl vox sound. I like the whole thing. It's like goth metal or summin. Has a typonegative feel to it. I like the squished sound. I really dug the drums also. The sound of the snare and the toms are so sweet. Wish I could get em to sound like that. How was that little hi hat effect done? Oh, if there wasn't any vocals in the song, it would be sooo dull. You totally made the song. Good job man :)

Off topic: In this song I heard panning of toms going right to left. Is that the way it's supposed to be or is it just the preference of the mixer? Being a drummer, I hear it going from left to right. Same kind of thing with the hi hat, panned left or right?

The vocals are a bit mushy but good performance. Sounds cool.

Killer tune. This going to be an on going thing with these guy's? Your vocals are all ways awesome mind you, but what effect (if any) are you using? Probably answered that a zillion times, but answer it again...dammit!:D thanks!

chucka, chucka, chucka, yeah, This is the only place I get my metal fix, and you are my fav. I like the band, and what you added is great.

muzeman - thanks Pete.. No E-bow.. I had nothing to do with any of the music other than adding vox and synths/soundfx.. That thing you heard was a warbly sounding synth from my trusty ol' Roland Xp-30.. Man I love that thing! :D thanks Pete, I just sent you a p.m.

soundprizm - Yeah I really like 'Type O' and I think it materializes sometimes.. As far as the drums, they were played by a drummer. He played one of those Roland percussion controllers with the 6 pads on it. I think my friend fixed it up in Cubebase a bit, but the drums were played in real time... I'm really the wrong guy to ask about drum panning because I have a trial and error method.. I dont think there is a set way to do it that I know of, but I like to hear the high hat to the right a bit, and normally the toms going fromright to left like a drummer, but whatever works. I didnt have anything to do with these drums or mix though.. thanks for checking it out man. There are better peole here who I'm sure can tell you a lot about drum panning etc..

TexRoadKill - thanks for checkin it out Tex.. I agree with you about the mushyness.. I'm working on it man.

David - hey David, I song through a Digitech Vocal 300.. It's a pretty checp processor, but I have grown to like it.. As far as what effects I use, it's usually compression, chorus, reverb, and some gain to dirty it up.. I'm realy not happy with the sound I have been getting, but I got a new mic so I hope it will improve.. I think I may be joining these guys, but I'll know today when the badn actually hears what I did to there song.. thanks a lot man!

dtb - thanks Dan! You know your a metal head at heart!

Once again , thanks a lot for the positive feed guys! The new vocals and mix seem to be better.. Guernica, participant, mixmkr, Sluice, Cranky One, fenderlikingood.. Get your ears on the new version and please tell me if it's better or worse.. :D

last tune again.. :D thanks!

It's certainly got your fingerprint! Before I continue, I'd like to know how the other instruments were recorded.

I'm waiting....

Alright fuck it for now. This seems like a great match for you Sam. The tune and sound itself gives me the feeling of being trapped in a sheet of plastic, that I can stretch the hell out of but I can't break through.

Did you mix the whole thing or just your vocals over their mix? I don't know what I should be commenting on. But I like it a LOT, and unfortunately I think the vocals should come up exactly 0.9 dB. I'm serious. But smiling :D And you know I'm not a pop guy so don't try writing it off as that...

Taking another listen. BTW I like the intro slide-in.

OK I take that other statement back. 0.6 dB. And that's unless you're going to ride the fader. The parts that I think you're trying to keep distant also are losing strength, impact. It happens to me all the time. So what I'm saying is, as a whole the vocals are at a pretty good level to me, but either more normalized vocals- manually or otherwise- or a little fader riding might be called for. Just a thought on only 2 listens, which is NEVER enough to do a good critique, especially on something unpredictable (which is ALWAYS good :) )

I'm not sure about that synth (the crazy distorted sine thingy or whatchmacallit)... I couldn't tell ya why... just seems to cheapen the guitars in some way. Maybe another sound with the same idea would be cool. And it sounds good anyway, but maybe a bit too cosmic.

This was nicely recorded. Drums sound fantastic...though they sometimes seem to dissapear in the mix.

Overall, this is excellent IMHO, and I think you should try another tune with them soon if this one clicks with everyone else in the group. Good Luck Brotha!

Oh sorry I couldn't compare for ya...as I was about to listen you posted that you were working on a remix, so I waited.

....and waited.... :D

Agree with most of the other comments. Drums are good, toms might be panned a bit much, but the overall sound is good. Guitar has a bit of a 'white noise' sound to it, I don't know if it's just it or a combination of an airy synth patch confusing me.

Cool synth solo!

Nice stuff.

I think the 2nd version is better with the vocals louder. the first one...they were waaay too low. I like the drums...panning and all..doesn't bug me...and the playing. What gives this "your" sound is the vocal-like synth sound over the heavy guitars, imo. My main complaint is with the guitar sound. It sounds too fuzzy to me, and if it got more of a real amp sound, like it was moving some air, I think it would be much better. The synth and sfx are cool....especially the "jet-flyover" in the beginning. You said there is bass, and I hear a low end, but it seems to just be a [regular] guitar part, matching the rhythm stuff...but an octave lower. It works ok, I suppose, but it seems that a real-to-goodness bass player might do something a little more.. But then, that would change the whole feel of the song too.

I guess what this song lacks for me is just a lack of a [recognizable] real guitar. The synth solo sound was ok for the brief period...but you know me...pure VanEddie fan to the max....so I like to hear chuggin' gtr sounds, real leads... You manage to escape that in YOUR stuff (if you know what I mean....as it sound nothing like Van Halen), but I like your stuff extremely so. I think your stuff would be my favorite of any....if you had a backwall of Marshalls, blowing out some sound. I'll bet you guys, should thinks work out good, will have that LIVE sound that I'm kinda alluding too. That would be a 10.

oh...I suppose if you DID actually step down a notch and take any of my suggestions...then you'd sound like the 1980's...ha!!!!

Nice Feel.
The guitar kinda has a compressed sound to it and this tune could use the full stack sound or something. Maybe doubling it would help.
Absolute sam synths and vocals. The vox are strong and pitch is great.
Mix is really good. Sounds are placed well and nothing is overpowered. a more defined bass sound would be nice. But it doesn't always fit in these slow moving creepy tunes.
You are a busy guy.

Another great effort!
Joel

bad design...

Awesome jet lead-in, to the guitars!! Very cool, and creative... the song is full of excellent ideas, and the lilty rhythm works really well... your vocal performance is exceptional. The guitars in this arrangement sound larger than normal--for example, in comparison to "Krazy", they're huge. The outro kicks ass, too... you're really good at those things

Crits: :o

The guits seem to have that 200-250Hz blur, and no bite sound to them that happened in my mix and has happened in some of yours :( mixmkr referred to that as speakers "pushing some air"...

you could try two more tracks of guitar of briter distortion and compress the crap out of 'em like "stuckatwork" did on his three tunes. The guit tone, as it is, is interesting... but maybe not where even you'd like it? It sounds like a hump at 200Hz, and another at 2.5k... a big valley between them. Right now it comes off as a bit "nosey", and dull :(

Seems like in the first several seconds, the snare drum and guitars are fighting for the slot at/near 200Hz... the bass could be throwing a few punches too :D

Vox sound good, and the performance is balls out--but could use some more presence (3k-4k) for clarity... solo the vox track if you can, and bump it up near 3.5k to see if it sounds good... or like shite :) If it sounds good, try it in the mix. If not, it means the mic didn't capture enough sound in that area of the spectrum.

Drums don't sound bad... tho real drums would make anyone's toon sound better... many of us included :o ;)

Is the attack time on your guit compressor too fast? It might be nice to hear some of those strums... or the initial "attack" of the strums...

The crash(?) ride, or ride cymbal ride around 2:15 doesn't seem good enough for the toon... at least the sound of it. Underpowered and thin right there...

Near 2:40--the hard panned, spacey synth needs some more "air" or highs...

3:10ish--the hats/crash sound thin/distant again...

I like the bass sound, when it did peak out... I had to listen very closely for it tho :) It might have the best recorded sound, but it's not present enough in the mix; that doesn't mean the low end isn't there--it's just that the string noise and what not is missing.

Overall, it sounds like the mix is starved for some 8kHz... just enough to brighten things up... again, if it's not in the recorded tracks, don't boost... either add a brite track to the arrangement, or retrack something that should contain those highs... imo a good vocal mic in your price range (C1/Rode NTK) would pop those highs in where you need 'em.

Another great composition from the man who cranks 'em out left & right :D

BTW... sorry everyone if I've missed your toonz :o I've been under one of those stupid, self-imposed posting things until I got another song posted... was hoping to do it by post #650 or Halloween :) Maybe #700... ;)

That's why I didn't catch ya earlier w/this sam...

Piece :)

exceptionally awesome feedback guys.. I really appreciate it..

I just heard from the guitarist who finally played it for the rest of the band..

The results are in! The verdict was,

I didn't get the gig.. They want to keep trying other singers.. I'm not really a singer anyway..

you guys rule!

whoa...

kinda like they reeled the 15 lb. bass up to the shore, and then realized they had no idea how to land it, and it slipped off the hook and it went on to bigger and better things.

all I can think of is those commercials..or movies where the guy turned down the role...and the movie was something stupid like Star Wars...or some flunkie movie that never amounted to much at the box office:rolleyes:

Funny thing about it actually,.....I think you're tunes showed better writing, guitar playing, sound, and drumming....

maybe next time;)

btw...you sing just fine, young mr samicide

I just figured it out!!!!

you probably didn't show 'em your plumbers butt crack!!!

no wonder.....

sammy...you kick butt...... even with the crack!!!

This tune fucking mauls my fucking face.A 'fat' sounding recording.Vox to low,Sam....Don't hide em.Great riff Mart,Sam...Good thing you strapped on your heavy vox box cuz if you sang like a girl over that I'de have to label you a POSER...hey ....,yo ...I'm singing on the next one ,tell Mart to call me,Gutars sound a little over compressed or something, mix is poor.overall good song structure.peace.

first of all, you guys should know that I found out W.I.S.C. is a friend of mine.. A friend who's ass I have to kick when I see..

hey mix, thanks for the kind words man.. I am a little bummed out about this.. I may need a break for awhile.. I'll probably slow down on the recording thing.. or at least posting music for awhile.. I think I'll be entering a realm of music that the clinic wouldn't really care for.. I'll still be listening to other peoples tunes though.. You guys are truly great people, and definitely helped my music more than you probably realize..

thank you

now I think this thread should die quickly.. I know that some of you dudes might have some nice stuff to say, but don't bother.. I know what most of you would say because your totally cool, but I don't want to think about this song/thread anymore..

I will still be listening to other peoples tunes on an almost daily basis..

Dan (W.I.S.C.) - wait until I see you. :)

this I gotta hear... samicide doing cover versions of Erkel polka music!!

their loss

i honestly think your vocals were the best part of the song. i can't imagine why they didn't want you in the band. it's too bad for them really.

sorry you didn't get the gig. start your own band sam!
