Could I play an electric guitar thru a keyboard amp?
I mean, you know, with any degree of success?

Of course you can. The keyboard amp would work particularly well if you are using a modeling box such as a SansAmp, POD, J-Station, etc.

OK cool, just wondering, because I've been told that you can't go the other way around, you know, play a keyboard thru a guitar amp. Something to do with frequency response, or the lack there of in the guitar amp. The keyboard has a much broader range than the guitar.

For what it's worth,
I play my Yamaha PSR340 keyboard through my Marshall VS65R amp and it seems to do just fine. I mean, I haven't blown anything and it seems to handle the low and high freq. just fine. A modelling box is a great idea.

A modeling box huh?
Hmmm... ok, great something else to tap my wallet!
I'm really an ultra-newbie-beginning-guitar-player. I want to play more of a jazz standard type of music, what sort of modeling box would I want to look into?
I just picked up a lower end "jazz box" type of guitar.

Bang for the buck, get a J-Station $149. It'll take ya from jazz to thrash, and anywhere in between. There are other modelling boxes you might like to try before making a decision though, it's all a matter of taste.

If you're going to be playing 'jazz standards' the keyboard amp will work just fine on it's own.

It's not the ideal choice, but you won't need a modeling box - just play with the neck pickup turned down on the guitar to about 8.
A modeling box is an effects box that reproduces the sound of different guitar amps such as a Tweed Fender or a Marshall Plexi etc.

For your needs not necessary.

Enjoy.
