I just picked up a Ampeg GU 12{think its a 1970}..Sounds great! Does the clean/edgy and bluezy lead thing very well..anyways anybody know anything about this particular model..Still has the original tubes :) and they are mint as far as I can tell...Thanks in advance

What are the output tubes, 7027A?
Does it have the rocker switch for the midrange?
If so, turn up the midrange tone knob, set the selector switch in the middle posistion, crank up the amp and step back.

I think they are 7591's No midrage just bass and treble..tremelo and verb.12" speaker..Kinda like a Fender Bassman sound

I didn't know Ampeg made a GU 12... I'm guess it's a guitar amp and not a bass amp?

Ya had me going there..LOL..But it has trem and reverb so its gotta be a guit amp...Hummm time for a google :)

IMO, Ampeg makes the best best bass amp's and I've used them all (Fender, SWR, Trace, Pevey, etc) but I'm not sure how good the Ampeg guitar amps are.

Very true!I used to use a SVT and a V4B back in my bass days..Guitar amps seem to be very nice also {this is my first}..I've always had Marshall's, Mesa's and Fenders ect. ..I had some buds that used V4's and they loved them..

My first amp was a V4 head with some shitty cabinet... it was a good-sounding amp, but I was such a beginner then that I couldn't really tell the difference. When I went away to college I sold it and bought a used 1965-66 Fender Deluxe Reverb which I still have to this day... but often I've wished I kept the Ampeg head...

I've got a Jet and a Reverbrocket- love 'em both.

My first amp (~25 years ago) was a Reverborocket. I wish I still had it.... Fugly, but WARM!!!

I also had a G-212... Sucked... (Loud though!!) Solid state... like plugging into a 100 lb combo with 2 12's and a Crown power amp driving it. I used a Fuzz Face with it to play Iron Man... over and over and over.... :-)

Yea... I love Ampeg bass amps, I have a few of them (SVT-2PRO and Classic plus the B-15R and B-100R which is the transistor verson of the B-15R... oh, and I have the SVP-CL preamp which is the front-end of an SVT)... hey not too change the subject, but has anyone used the Marshall VBA400 bass amp? I haven't used one yet but they sure look nice (12 tubes).

ive got a v2 head that i absolutly love, i think it even sounds better than my soldano astroverb (which is quite an acomplishment). BTW does any one know of a 7027A reissue that is not sovtek, ive been using jj/teslas but they tend to not last long. and has anybody tried running KT90/88 in a v2? it would be nice to have that extra bass response and head room.
oh how i cant wait to see how it sounds completly recapped after my amp repair guy is done freshening it up.
