SS=Solid State. Those transistors and silicon IC chips that your Computer is built from. Solid state may look good to an engineer on a schematic diagram, but the tube circuit has a certain sound and clarity that will out class a solid state every time.
Does that help you a bit?

so the tubes will sound much better than the SS right?

are all SS amps the small one with out the heads and cab, like a mg30dfx (what i have) or can stacks have SS

alot of guys like the solid state marshalls for metal stuff.

alright well i want more kind of rock kinda just a like distortion not much low gain i think im gona get a mg100dfx 100watt head with an angled mg412 120watts but i only have $300 and i dont know if im gona get recording gear instead but all i have is a squire strat not high quality

What do you want to do with your purchased guitar gear? Is this for live use, rehearsal, or just for recording?

If your budget is really $300, then most of the amps you have referenced are out of range. For $300 you can get a reasonable combo amplifier or a basic guitar modeller for use in recording.

Yeah I would go for a combo amp if I was you. I know people don't like the whole SS thing, but if your on a budget, maybe look for one of the first generation marshall valvestate hybrid tube/SS thingys. Don't get the newer AVT's, they suck by comparison. But I have a first generation valvestate 8080 and its a great little amp for rock. You may have to scour ebay but they probably come pretty cheap now.

I also have an AVT 150h half stack and the distortion sucks by comparison. I like the clean/slightly dirty tones with some of the effects, but the high distortion is muddy as hell. The 8080 I have has a much punchier tighter distortion thats perfect for metal.

Ditto ..... what exactly will you be doing with this amp? If it's just to play in the house .... then a half stack is stupid. Not really useful at all.

Oh but they look so danm cool :D

DON'T GET THE MG SERIES! In my opinion they sound like ass, I'd scour ebay for an amp. Mabie laney

You seem kind of hung up on marshalls, dont be

Well i was gona get the mg series half stack or the full stack i was goin to get it to play mostly in my basement and band practice. Also would probably record with it i also have a mg30dfx (wich is a SS, has no tubes) and i like it but is there something wrong with the mg stack series with the tubes. I love marshalls and i want either a half or full stack brand new if possible. Is there any other marshalls that you would recomend that are stacks? And im not sure what combos are im gona search those. Iwould also play live with it but im not sure thats gona happen for a whle

But none of that matters if the flux capacitor can't handle the required 1.21 jigowatts.
The only thing that can give off that much power is lightening.
The clocktower it is.

A combo is an amp that has the amplifier electronics and speakers all in one case. A Fender Twin, for example.

combo is short for "combination", essentially the amplifier and speaker in one package

i did'nt know that any of the mg's were tube amps. are there mg tube amps? personally i hate the solid state marshalls. like someone else said, don't get hung up on the marshall name. the probably have a an equal ratio of good/bad sounding amps........maybe even more bad sounding amps. have you ever tried a jcm800?
