amp buzz noise

I've got a fender hot rod deluxe. I really like it, despite being really F'ing loud.. However lately, I've noticed a pretty bad buzzing coming from within. It sounds sorta like paper or wax paper or tinfoil, or ductwork vibrating. It happens generally only when an open E chord, or just the low E string is played fairly loud. And it will kind of come in and out as the note sustains. I can't for the life of me find where it's coming from. I took the back panel off, even took the chasis (or whatever the main board full of guts is) off the amp, tightened every screw I could find, and it still hapens. Once the chasis was off, the sound stopped, so I couldn't pin point it any closer.

Anyway, other than to rant a bit, I thought I'd ask here if anyone had any ideas of what to do/where to look. I'm gonna try the amp tonight at a different location to make sure it wasn't my ducts rattling, that just somehow sounded like it was coming from the amp. But then, I guess I might have to take it to am amp shop. Seems like a stupid reason to take an amp to the shop though.

Sounds to me like a microphonic tube, though I've never owned a tube combo so it may be something totally different. In any case, try tapping lightly on each tube with a pencil eraser while the amp is on and out of standby. If you hear any noise when tapping, you've located a microphonic tube and it's likely the cause.

and there's your answer... you've got some kinda simpathetic vibration going... and yes they are a serious pain in the ass to locate sometimes... all you can do is tighten everything down... especially the speaker and the grill ... have someone else play the thing and you press on stuff to trace it down....

Try this

Sounds like perhaps something in the reverb circuit.
Turn the reverb completely off and see if it disappears.
If it does then perhaps there is a tube controlling it that
is the problem. I've been told that tube sockets should
be cleaned out with contact cleaner and the pins of tubes
should be cleaned as well. This even applies to brand new
amps. They can get fouled up sitting around a factory.

sounds like the cab or chassis is the prob*em to me too.
