sorry if this has been posted before... which company makes better processors for recording AMD or Intell ? thxs

edit: and no, Mac is out of the question.

From what I've been hearing, AMD does a better job. Not sure if it's still true, but it used to be that the AMD chip was faster than it's Intel equivalent.
Someone who does straight pc recording could give you better specs. I record on an MR-8 and mix via the pc. I have the Athalon 2.14 processor. No skips, no stutters and no locking up when I work.

sweet thxs,

earlyer i posted that mac is out of the question, but i was wondering, is it worth getting a mac pro? I've got a delta 1010lt that needs to go in. (prob. 2 by the time I can afford it.) is it really woth 3k?

AMD processors USED to be the better buy of those 2, but now-a-days since Intel released the Core 2 Duo's, Intel has been a powerhouse. Also, Intel's new generation pricing has kept dual core processors real cheap compared to AMD. Of course the X2's outperform the pentium D's, but the prices were different... Anything else Intel (current Xeon's, Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Quad's) outperform AMD. Intel's Core 2 Duo lineup, mid range processors outperform AMD's best processors (AMD FX-60's lineup).

dual core it is then. whithin my budget, and I've heard alot of good things about it. thxs

They both suck.Macs are no better.
You're fucked in any case.
Give up!

lol, your right, recording is for pussies! wait... damn.

may I ask what your reasoning is behind this?

Look closely. There is "dual core" & "core 2 duo" or conroe.

The newer chips "core 2 duo" show a slower speed but are more efficiant. Just got a core 2 duo 2.6ghz system and it never sweats. You want to make sure though that the motherboard has a 1066 buss speed for the chip. and a decent buss speed for the memory along with decent speed memory. You can throw that chip on a crap board and it's like trying to push an elephant threw a straw.

and thank you Freudian Slip for the helpful info.

Do you know what you're wanting to spend? You'll have a hard time getting any deal in the stores, but I can tell you where I got mine. if you like. Only problem is that the guy tweeks them for audio and says that's why he does not send a windows disk only a recovery disc (home made). I know why he didn't send one ;) He is supposed to send it after I complained, but we will see. Other than that it's a awsome computer for the price. And it's very very quiet wich is nice fore recording.

I'm looking to stay under a grand (hopfully under 500) I've already got a soundcard (delta 1010lt), a vid. card, and harddrives (SCSI) but I would be interested in his setup, I'm not too worried if he uses "borrowed" software, for I usto (and still am a bit) a pirate myself

I usually get my stuff from factorydirect or tigerdirect (.ca) but if you know of better places, I would be glad to hear it! :)

For under a grand, I also suggest the core 2 duo 2.6ghz minimum, with a decent motherboard by any of the respected companies that offer you the features you need.

A dual core is a dual core, it has two cores on 1 die. Regardless if it's a conroe or a pentium D, they both still have........ dual cores..... There's big differences in each of the chips however... The core 2 duo's would stomp & murder the pentium D's. The pentium D's are entry level multi-cores. Don't get these... The Core 2 Duo 6600 & say an Asus motherboard & DDR2 667 2GB consair XMS would do fine for starters

You know, from what I understand, the Intel dual cores are only faster in theory, and you'd actually be better off with an AMD of the same speed. Maybe I read wrong, though. What you want to do is look at some PC magazines or web sites. Anything that talkes about good processors for gaming or video editing involves basically the same sorts of things you'd want for audio editing and will be useful buying advice for you.

Well your sort of right. The only intel processor that would be better like was said is the Core 2 Duo's, Intel has optimized them for media as well as applications. AMD is well known for being optimized for media/games for a while now, but the throne was handed down to Intel after the conroe was released. If a person was to purchase a processor that was from Intel's lower lines (under the core 2 duo's), they might as well got better performance using AMD processors. If they were to purchase a higher end processor, they should go with the core 2 duos'. Benchmarks have proven that the new Intel processors outperform AMD in media things like encoding, decoding, playback, tracking & whatever they throw at it. I think the only thing currently AMD is winning is memory benchmarks since their memory controller is built onto the chip itself, and intel's is still on the motherboard.

verry interecting. This has helped me out alot. thanks alot.! :D :D
