Well, this is my first post here.

I just recorded this about 20 minutes ago, and would greatly appreciate any criticism. It's just the start of the song, and I'd like some feedback on the mix/levels/guitar tone, etc. before I continue.

I'm a newb so I don't really know what I'm doing.

Don't hesitate to be honest, if you think it's terrible, say so.

Thanks.

You want criticism? OK: your Mamas fat and your sisters ugly. Hows that? :D :D

Sounds just fine, welcome to the clinic  Its not much, maybe only 50 seconds. Its on the right track for sure, keep going?

it's not terrible.........you might want to brush up on your guitar licks...I heard the same one several times. Amazing Grace is one of my all time favorites, I think that you had the soul of the song, just try to make it your own......good work for a newb!!!! :D

Thanks (except for the whole my mom's fat and sister is ugly thing).

I only did the first part of the lead so far, and wanted feedback on the tone of the guitars, levels, etc. before proceeding...

There's absolutely nothing you would change if this were your mix?

My amp sucks and my mic sucks, and my preamp sucks so I'm trying to get the best tone out of what I got. :(

I agree, I'm not the best guitarist in the world, but I'm trying to keep it simple and true to the original. Amazing Grace is also one of my all time favorites.

If you think your mic and amp and all other stuff sucks, you are treating your recording as worthless and pointless. Some gear sucks and some gear doesn't. Price and condition don't determine that, tho! The output quality determines what's cool.

This lead sounds really nice. So to some listener sitting out there it makes no different if you're using a $2000 amp with special built cab head, or just a honey tone belt amp. They only think whether the tone is nice, and the overall piece is worth listening.

Song wise, the playing is good and the tone is nice. The work needs to be completed. I'm always up for any Christian song.

Good luck to you. :)

You're right, I was just saying that I'm trying to make the most of what I got which isn't much. For anyone who is interested:

Fender G-Dec Amp...more of a toy than an amp, really...

Epiphone Electric Junior Model...First guitar I ever got, and still my only electric...one pickup and one tone knob. :o

M-Audio AudioBuddy preamp

One MXL microphone

SoundBlaster Live! 24-bit soundcard

Thanks for the comment.

Don't worry dude. The gear I have - 1) Fender Squire. 2) Crate amp. 3) That's it.

You worry about the gear.....worry about the sound....learn to work with what you have and try different mic placments....when you make a good recording with what you have, then you can worry about upgrades and such. gear is gear. it;s just a tool.....you can do as much with a wal-mart wrench as you can with a sears wrench.
