Ok, I've remixed, played with the EQ, drove myself crazy trying to second guess everything and hopefully this is a cleaner mix without so much harshness in the high end. I hope I'm a lot closer to 'good' than I was before. On my speakers it sounds good... to ME. Now I'd like your help/opinions and guidance again.

Nice tune guy. clean recording, a bit bright on the high side of the eq. I hear what you mentioned in the other post about the bass. I think if you would run a separate eq on the bass and cut a -3 db notch out at around 105 to 120 hz. On a separate eq boost the kick drum in that region by a couple of db, along with cutting off most everything above 400 to get that click out of it, you might hear more of what your after.

instruments that are using similar dominant frequencies don`t share them well, so you have to carve out a hole in one to let the other come thru. This holds true especially in the bass regions.

Thanks for the tip! I'll give that a shot. Now, when you say cut off most everything above 400 are you still talking about the kick or are you referring to the click in the bass guitar? I'm assuming bass guitar here. I understand the 'concept' of EQ, I'm just having a hard time putting it into practice. ;)

The drums are an SR-16 on one track so I'd have to, again, play with the EQ to boost the kick and maybe pull some of the highs out if they're still a bit edgy. I don't EQ the whole mix, only the individual tracks (best for me since I'm so damned inadequate with EQ) so you'd have to be more specific about what is bright on the high side. I'm assuming cymbals, crashes?

Thanks again!

Listening to the song as I speak. Very good clean sounding mix. Reminds me of Tom Petty. Nice, clean and simple. Sounds like a good solid mix. I'm listening on some cheap pc speakers, but still enjoyed it.

Nice job.

Thanks H-Al and Bob! I'm doing the best I can with what I have. I'm still not sure I like it but I'll keep working on it until I'm happy with it. Were the highs ok? I cut some high EQ across the cymbals, crashes and the acoustic guitars because some said they were very brittle and harsh sounding.

As long as I keep going in the right direction... whatever that is... hahaha

The click on the kick. you can use a parametric eq to find that frequency and gently subtract from where it is. I say gently because all the drums are on one track and you`ll be affecting more voices than just the kick.
By carving that notch out of the bass eq in the low range it will let the kick use some of those frequencies and stick its head out. With a little boost on the low end of the drum track you should have quite a bit more low end definition.
Yes, on the bright side. the cymbals, crashes, and high hat are a bit bright for me.

Oh, and don`t be shortchanging yourself, you got a good thing going and gettin better :)

See, there's that nasty EQ thing again. ;) I don't hear the bright/harsh high end so the click in the kick is not going to register, but I think I know what you're talking about and will try to address it. I need new speakers. Or more precisely, I need new studio monitors. Now there's ANOTHER damned thing I don't know anything about!
