$2400? Looks nice though. "Perfectly transparent"
Seems to be the going rate for 8 channels of AD/DA conversion.
Some are more.

Well, a 8ch a/d d/a converter is pretty low on my list of gear to get, probably because I have so much to get. Good pre first.

Well, I currently run a 2 - 8 channel AD/DA converters (Steinberg 8i/o's), but they're 48K sample rates. I want to make the upgrade to 96K, more for marketing than anything else. When the time comes, I'll let those go relatively cheap.

Marketing? Can you explain a litte more? 96k, is that for dvd's or something. I dont know much about this realm of recording.

Well, it does sound cool if you can offer up to 96k to your clients. It will surely impress some people.

It's been my experience so far that musicians only know one brand name - Pro Tools. Neuman, Neve, API, Fairchild, Radar, Lucid, CraneSong... forgeddaboudit. Sampling rate and bitdepth discussions seem to elicit blank stares.

If you want to rent your facility out to other engineers than you can market gear.

There's always exceptions to the rule.
I've had several musicians ask me about sample rates, and converters. Most seem to know the Apogee name, but mention Lucid and you do get some blank stares.

I'm working on picking up some more post, and the 96K sample rate seems to weigh in heavy favor with some of the local film makers I know.
Ultimately, I'd like to offer REAL DVD authoring, and surround sound production and mixing. The 96K converters are just the first step.
