I think I may be, and I think it is CEP/Audition's fault. See, I'm not very technically proficient. It usually takes me about 3 passes to hook up my guitar effects pedals and my amp in the correct sequence to actually produce sound, and I've been doing it for 15 years.

Yet, I claim to have a "home recording studio." What I really have is a condenser plugged into a preamp into a computer that has CEP on it, where I don't have to know dick about auxilliary busses or sends/returns or really much of anything that a real engineer would need to know.

I know some of you guys still mix on boards and 8 tracks and just use CEP as an editor, but I track, mix, master...and burn all in the box. I could never get past the fact that a "PAN" knob has at least 2 functions on a 4 track...who needs that? lol.

Are YOU a sham? Boy, I am.

If you were named Sam, we could form a band called the Pharaohs.:D I like knobs. Knobs are good.

"Sham I Am?" Doing Dr Seuss set to hard rock?

I don't think it's such a big deal to have to rethink the order every time. You probably just have more important things on your mind.

lmao..."Nacogdoches, TX." Now there's a spot I've never seen on this BBS.

SFA grad here, lol. College - ahhhh....6.5 of the best years of my life, lol. Just cool to see somebody from NacaNowhere on here.

You may be a sham, but you're also a great songwriter, and a pretty good singer and guitar player...

Let it go, man. You're making music.

Yeah, I don't know the first thing about mixers. I'm going to have to learn this year, too. I'll teach you everything I find out, Chris lol.

How do you pronounce Nacognoches?

I can handle the end part...

chrisharris,

Hey it's about writing/creating music and finding "tools" that help you do it. How many engineers have you met that could also play music. Sure I know some but for the most part, especially in the analog days, the engineers were guys that loved twisting knobs and learning about the science of sound.

I must admit that I dream of producing stuff that stands up to most commercial CD's but honestly I'd be content with a decent demo that might interest a real master in the engineering art to apply his or her craft to my song. I am learning about producing and how the studio/workstation is a whole different palate than working a song up for your band to play in your favorite bar. It's got my creative juices flowing and I'm hoping that my skills settle to an acceptable (to me) level that allows me to be more prolific.

nackuhdoechess.....that's Texican

:D

Chris - I'm in the same boat dude. But at this point in my life, I don't really care what the hell busses and send/returns are.
I just want to know how to mic my drums, run them into a mixer, and run them into my computer and get a cool sound. Which I'm working on! :-p
Once I get that down, I'll look into compression and other stuff to make it sound even better!

Anyways, I'm sure you'll learn about that stuff evenrually, but hey, who cares right now? You know what you're doing, and you'll look into more stuff when you're ready.

- Justin - :D

Nack-uh-DO-chis. My late mother-in-law, God bless her, always called it Nack-uh-DO-Cheese. There's a town in Louisiana about 100 miles from here called Natchitoches (that's Nack-uh-Tish.)

Chrisharris, I'm as surprised as you are. I moved here many years ago from Los Angeles (in Mayor Yorty's pronunciation, Lahs Angle-ese) but am pretty well aclimated now. My wife works at SFA as a grant writer (and, no, she wouldn't write a grant to fund my studio).

I stand by what I said earlier. Being a musician is more important than knowing how to change the tape in the computer;)

weird uhh busses and sends are really simple. When you buss something, it just means move it somewhere. So say you want to work on effects for a group of tracks, you just buss them all to the same buss and then do the realtime effects on that. Simple. What the hell are you talking about? ;) if you want to learn about anything about the art of recording you dont need a huge degree, just go here:

Enjoy - stop being ignorant ;)

Welcome!

I know how to buss but it just didn't work the first time I tried it with CEP and I haven really needed it yet. When I do I'll figure it out but hey thanks for that link.....looks like a treasure trove of information.

also try reading the manual... cmon guys.

fight ignorance!

you better have bought the program, too.

I'll assume you're kidding...but if you're not, ease up, jackass. I have a decent handle on how to use CEP/AA. My post was meant to illustrate the ease of use of the program...I can get away with not being a real engineer, and still obtain some decent results.
