Alternative to monitor speakers

Hi guys is there any alternative to monitor speakers cos these are expensive to buy

There are all sorts of prices - but you get what you pay for. You can use headphones, but you will not get the same sound balance. Here are Sweetwater's choices.

Some are expensive but as MJB said you get what you pay for the more expensive (usually) the better they are. Mine arent particular expensive, but they are worth getting.

a good set of headphones is a good place to start. BUT like mjb said its not the same. Im using headphones right now for the reason that i cannot afford monitors and it works fine for me.

The alternative is to use high-fidelity (not "hi fi" but "real" high-fidelity) reference speakers. If you think "studio monitors" are expensive, you're probably getting into the wrong hobby...

Keep in mind that your monitoring chain is bay far, the most important purchase you will ever make when it comes to recording...

Actually, there is a great and inexpensive alternative that works just as well: Monitors.

Behringer's B2031a powered monitors are cheap and they probably won't last - but they sound pretty good and get loud.

And there's the rub...

We all started small...but no matter how small, you really do want to have at least some "decent" monitors. There are decent monitors for a few hundred. If that's too much for you, then yeah, you may want to rethink your hobby choices...'cuz monitors are not the most expensive item when you really start getting deeper into recording gear.

Miroslav is right, I've just started and I haven't gone and bought very cheap stuff I've bought average priced and spent almost £1000 (not including redecorating my room to make it look nice) so if it's something you wanna do then you will just have to pay no one is saying go out now buy everything but buy things one item you need per month or whenever you get paid, I mean obviously you can cut corners and get cheaper things or instead of monitors go out and buy some generic computer speakers but your shooting yourself in the foot then as anything else you buy isn't going to sound that great due to the cheaper alternative to monitors. But I'm sure if you posted a budget of what you have then everyone here can help you out with what you can get.

To start...besides a good room, which may need some treatment...
..a solid microphone(s), preamp(s) and monitors should be the primary gear if you are on a tight budget....then add other things later on.
Some of the DAW newbs will drop $1k or more on a computer...and then go $50 on a USB mic, a $100 on a preamp, and try to work on the $30 computer speakers they got with their PC.

Im pretty new at this im using a pIII laptop to mix on but im using a tascam dp01fx to record picked it up for cheap and it works like new i just dislike trying to use the tiny screen on it to try and mix and add effects but since my computer is slow recording direct to pc lags bad and its hard to get things lined up. but reaper runs well on it.

It is actually possible to buy a set of monitors that are not very expensieve. They will though do the job right.Behringer B2031A

I'm no Behringer fan generally, but I'm using the powered monitors that a couple of people have mentioned.... still... after all these years... I've gotten used to them and recognise their limitations and know how to cross check with other listening systems. I'll upgrade one day, I guess...

You need to watch bass response with headphones - very easy to get it wrong in a major way if you're new - I'd prefer hi-fi speakers and some good reference CDs of the style you're attempting... but that's just me.
