Absolutely ! It's _your_ choice .

And I'm sure most of us would rather be pissed off than pissed on :D :D

Definately NOT pissed. I wouldn't ever buy a guitar based on a brand name. I base my decisions on build quality, tone and playability. It just turns out that the guitars that fit this description almost always start out around $2000.:D

The great thing about expensive guitars is that you don't have to play 30 of the same model to find a good one.

CNC machines are evil.

Well, Fusion, those squared off frets you don't like are a Gibson feature, which greatly increases sustain, but they do take some getting used to. And I'm so sorry, I didn't pay $1000 for my guitars, more like $2000 apiece. Go ahead and make an album with cheap guitars, if you want to. You think you got it bad? My violin/viola player, Audrey White, is a professor at the New England Conservatory of Music. Her violin bow cost more than my (new) Neon! Don't even ask about the violin. It should be noted that I play cheap guitars also, and no, they're not the same. In the end, I'm not jacking a C414 into an Avalon pre to capture the sound of an Ovation, or any other piece of mass produced junk.-Richie

You have offended my Ovation custom shop mandocello.

I seem to need to clarify my statements on this thread. Ok, so I'm not the "great communicator"!

I was afraid I would have to go into more detail on this,,, and here it is:

The rough frets I was talking about was not on the "crown" or length of the fret. But rather on the end of the fret wire. There was actually an unfinished barb on the ends. And not just one fret, but all the way up and down the neck! I suppose they either snip it off by hand after they set the frets or a machine does it. Whatever.

The frets were not smoothed out. That is really unacceptable for a guitar in any price range. I was flat out disappointed that Gibson would let this happen across the board. I'm also disappointed that Guitar Center let them ship that junk to their stores and still charge those un-godly prices.

I shall hamer Gibsons a little more while I'm on the subject.

What's with the rough f holes on the 335's? Jeez, they don't even hit them with 100 grit to take the router marks off.

Ok, now I'll flame Guitar Center a little more:

What's with the rusty strings on the $2500 hollow body Gretsch you're trying to sell me? Put new strings on and maybe I would have bought it and not the $350 Hammer Echotone (off of Ebay!).

And what's up with someone buying several of the same style guitar (like 4 strats or 3 acoustics), when they could really expand their playing ability by buying different types of guitars?

If you own both the original and the re-issue.... and then the slacker one or two they marketed in between. What's up with that?

Why do people take their guitar into a shop to have the intonation set?

How many pedals does it really take?

My fingers have been genetically altered to grow Dunlop picks instead of fingernails. How cool is that?

I dream in stereo.

Good night.

Why do people own more than one of the same guitar you ask.

Because if you can afford it do it. If I could i would own all the guitars in the world.

As for Gibson. I know what you are talking about with the frets. I have a studio and I don't really notice it when I play. Its just part of the guitar. But the overall tone of the guitar makes me forget everything.

Yeah - that's a big difference between a lot of lower end and higher end guitars. It's also a difference between some higher end guitars form large companies and those from smaller makers.

"Hammer" is what you do to a nail (or Gibson). "Hamer" is the guitar.

All guitars sound different. If you like strats, maybe you want to have 4 of them. So what?

Why do people take their guitar into a shop to have the intonation set?

Because some people (like those who can hear the difference between two different strats :p ) think it is worth it to take their guitar to their local tech to intonate the guitar using a strobe tuner. Some people think it's worth the 10 minutes and $5. Others do it by ear or with a cheaper tuner, and maybe that's ok.

As many as it takes. :D

Usually when fret ends are sharp like that, the guitar is way dried out. Usually a couple of weeks in a good case with a guitar hydrator will fix that.-Richie

I don't know, it used to be called 'top and crown' fretwork to make playability perfect and your repair guy had to know you and your style pretty well to get the right feel.

Why do people buy expensive value added 'tree of life' guitars? Because they can. That's the way it is. I grew up poor, or at least my parents led me to believe that, so when I grew up and made a few bucks in the music business I wasn't going to spend my time playing low end instruments.

Another thing is resale value should you want to move on to another instrument. My wife's $4000 Rolex in my mind is a piece of crap because it can't tell time and needs repair every year, but it's still a Rolex come time to sell it.

Same deal, guitarman. Only a fool would buy a Ferrari when a Neon will get you to work. I'm taking my guitars to a Grand Prix-Richie

Only a fool would buy a Neon if they had the money to buy a Ferrari. You know what? Screw Ferrari. I'd take a Lamborghini Murcielago any day.

Damn. I'd be happy with an 80's Countach if someone would pay for the repairs...

If you're gonna get a Lambo, go for the Miura - without a doubt, one of the coolest cars of all time.

(I think hijacking this thread is a good plan... who cares how much you paid for your guitar! If you play it right, you can afford one of these... )

Meh, i've heard they handle like arse.

I could give a rat's ass how they handle. If ya want handling, get a Porsche.

I just think they look like a cylon spaceship or something.

What would you guys recomend for classical guitars?

I have the possibility of picking one up that is around 700-800 US new, but i'd get to buy it for 700-800 Canadian.

But if that doesn't go through i'd have to keep looking (in Canada).
