I have installed Adobe Audition 3 and need to sync it to an Alesis SR-18 drum machine.
I understand I can use the SR-18 as the master clock using SMPTE - have tried following the instructions but can't get it to work.

I believe I could also get Audition to act as the master and send out Midi time code - likewise haven't been successful doing this either.

I am using a Cakewalk midi interface.

I have (in Audition) programmed some data into the sequencer and managed to have it play back the bass sound of the SR-18.

If any one has detailed instructions on how to solve my syncing problems I would be truly grateful as I have been pulling out my hair trying to get round this!!!

Have you tried using Adobe Audition as clock master? I don't know if that's possible. I use an Alesis SR-16 with a stand alone recorder (Korg D1600) and always use the recorder as the clock master and the SR-16 as the slave.

Hi Dan

Do you use Audtition 3? According to the manual I can sync from Audition using SMPTE/MTC but my Alesis SR-18 doesn't lock in or respond in any way.

When I last did home recording using SMPTE/Midi An audible signal was recorded onto the tape. I am not sure what to expect with the digital setup. Should the midi code be audible or visible in the track?

Thanks for getting back to me.

Nope, I'm old fashion (yet digital) and have always used a stand alone recorder. When midi-ing my SR16, the recorder was always the clock master and the drum machine was the slave.

An no, I don't think the midi code is audible when going digital. I imagine when using tape, the SMPTE/MIDI track may generate some kind of audio signal, although as I've never used SMPTE with tape, I don't know for sure.
