alesis sr-16 24 bit vrs 16 bit model

Does anyone know if there is a big difference in sound quality between the 2 models and if the 24 bit model sounds been resampled?

I think the SR16 has been and still is 16 bit.

If you are going by the hype posted on Musicians Freind, I'd say they are wrong. (Imagine that! They've never posted inaccurate info before! LOL!!) Even the Alesis pdf spec sheet they link to says it is 16 bit.

zZounds did the right thing and pulled the info directly from the Alesis web site, which states - accurately - that the SR16 is 16 bit. That's probably why it's called the SR "16"......besides the fact that it has 16 voice polyphony.....

Of course, if it were 24 bit, it wouldn't be selling for $150.....

The faceplate of mine says 16 bit.... but it's a 1993 model.... vintage......

I just got a used SR16. I THINK its the one that everybody and their brother used to have, I am not aware of anything else.

I use it as a fancy metronome myself. It sounds like....1990! It's fine for what it is but it's very old technology and I highly doubt they updated it because it looks IDENTICAL.

And why would they not update their web pages?? Everything I can find on their web site says it is 16 bit..... and that's as of at least 2003.....

Is it possible you got a counterfeit? Just throwing out wild guesses......

If there is a 24 bit one out now, I'd be very very interested in trying to hear the difference....

Even I'm confused now......but that doesn't take much doing. LOL!

Let me put it this way: YES, the 24 bit one sounds waaaay better!

I called a tech at alesis today. He said that the sr-16 now has a 24 bit converter and it has been out for the last half year. They haven't updated the web site yet. He also said that the sound is slightly better and louder.
I only use the sr-16 as a sound module (it is not my only drum sample source). I usually avoid the samples with reverb and use the dry ones and add eq and a small amount of reverb if needed.
