Is there any reason to purchase this keyboard if you have a Triton X,Motif ES, and FantomX?I remember reading in a mgzine, someone had a Motif 7 Classic, but also had an Alesis QS 6.1, and from reading the features of it, I didn't understand why?

Because it is inexpensive.
Because there are a lot of fans of the old Quadra-Synth lineage.
The QS pre-Dates all the aforementioned synths, so perhaps he got the QS first.
I wouldn't splurge for the QS 8, but for under $600 new, the QS 6 is not a bad deal.

So what Korg or Yamaha board would you compare an Alesis Q6.1 too?

They both wipe QS series to the ground. hahaha

All kidding aside, It just depends on what your looking for in a synth. I have all 3 well not exactly' I have the Motif 6 Classic, KORG Karma (With Triton sounds loaded into it and a Alesis QS.6.

I bought the QS back in the 90's when I needed a back up synth for my Korg X3 and it was cheap.

QS still has some very good pads and good organs if you tweek them just right. Not good for analog sounds and pianos suck rocks, except for EP sounds and again you must tweek them to taste.

I still use it in my rig of 5. It is still useful to me because I had made my own sounds from scratch on it that I can't seem to duplicate on the others (and maybe alittle laziness :) .

Drums programs are strong but crash cymbals are very weeeaak. Anyways a good starter keyboard for cheap and very user friendly.

See ya :)

I have a QS8 and have for years. It is a fine feeling 88 key weighted action keyboard that does a great job in the studio as a midi controller (a couple of pedals and 4 slides, plus the two wheels.) In the olden times, when my studio was hardware, the sounds were okay... kinda "bread and butter"... but some limitations... like no resonance in the filters etc. IMHO, the sounds were good for "fattening" up and doubling other synths... and got better with a couple of the cards (I leave the orchestral and synth cards plugged in.) Now that my studio is mostly software, the only way I use the sounds in (any of them really) the QS is when tinkering with a quick idea. It still isn't a bad controller if you want 88 keys..... but it won't do a lot of stuff that newer synths will do.

Take Care.

would you say the ALESIS QS 8.1 does a better job as a controller than sy a Korg Triton X 8, or a Motif ES 8?

Depends on your needs. If you are just using soft synths anyone of these can do that or you can get a cheap controller with no pre-set sounds on it (cheaper, M-Audio 49 key keyboard $99.99). I would only get the QS as a controller because it would be cheap and it has some sounds on it. I believe the other two synth simply blows this synth away all the way around.

Either way I plan to end up with Motif, Fantom and Triton keyboards/sound modules I'm just trying to decide what I need, since Guitar Center is so far.
Well, I'm looking for boards/racks to do dance and rock instrumentals on , most likely ill end up with a 37 or 49 key clavia nord or Alesis VA Synth keyboard .Right now I'm trying to decide if I'd ever use the tube thing (I don't even know what it's function is???I'm trying to research, maybe someone could help me on that) on the Triton Extreme, cause thats the only thign that appeals to me that would make me want to buy the keyboard, and not the rack.I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy the FantomX in rack form.NOW...I want something to practice playing piano(88 Keys), and maybe live gigs, and I'm trying to decide if I should get the Motif ES keyboard, or the Motif ES Rack and Alesis QS,I know I can get a Motif ES Rack for 1000 $ with tax included, and the Alesis QS 8.1 500-750, but the Motif ES 88key keyboard is like 2250-2500$.What I'm trying to figure out is the Alesis QS 8.1 good enough to play like an 88 Key piano, or would the Motif ES be better. Also, I don't want a 88 key midi controller, I want something with sounds already in it.

I don't own the the other keyboardsmentioned (I do have a Yamaha SY77 and some rack mounted boxes thought), so my comment was just about the QS8. As I play accoustic piano for my main instrument, I much prefer 88 weighted keys..... if you are just entering midi data and don't particularly play piano, there are lots of cheaper controllers now. My guess is that most synths today have seriously surpassed the old QS series in terms of sounds. Also in comparison, I would guess that the QS controller functions are okay, but are nothing to write home about. However, as I've had it "forever" and it has been a reliable performer, I think I'll keep it! :D

I agree, as I mentioned before I own a QS.6 and it is the original in the QS series. I still use it as part of my rig. But yes, the Triton, Fantom and Motif will kick it's ass.

If you're looking for good piano sounds then the Fantom and the Motif are the one's you might consider.

I got my Motif because the analog synths were Kick Ass!!! Of course you have to tweek them to taste...That's why they are synths. :)
