Hi there,

I already read lots of stuff here on the alesis multimix and its troubles with the firewire connection. I got one last week, and have not been able to get it fired up so far.
I downloaded and installed the latest drivers from alesis website, no problem. You get the message: "connect your multimix firewire cable any time now". I did, nothing happend. I manually started the add new hardware wizard as descirbed in the firewire FAQ, but hte multimix is not seen by my PC.
Hence tried the firewire card they recommended (belkin F5...), no progress either?!
Tried my videocamera with the same firewire card, no problem, showed up and worked flawlessly.

Any suggestions?
Also tried all possible start up routines. first pc then MM and vice versa etc.

sorry to hijack your post but i'm having the same problem with my multimix.

i've had it for a couple of years and it's been fine but during the past couple of months my macbook stops recognising my multimix on regular occasions. i'd be using it fine, then suddenly, in the middle of a session, the multimix disappears from my audio hardware pop down menu.

on a number of occasions i've re-installed the drivers of the disc, downloaded the new drivers and installed them and finally got it working. however, since the last time it happened, i'm having no luck with any of the drivers.

so i could do with a little advice too

thanks

Call Alesis. They'll work with you. You might have to wait a good 15/20 minutes on hold waiting for your turn...But they can help a little. I've had similar problems with my multimix. You should see if you can try your mixer on some other computer just to narrow it down to whether it's the mixer or the computer...Etc. Troubleshoot a little.

Make sure you follow all the steps Perfectly. I know..pain in the ass..but maybe it'd work...

Sorry I don't have any specific advice, but yeah. That's what I think...

i've just managed to get my mixer working. i had to do a complete re-install of my os x on my macbook and then install the up to date mutlimix drivers. it's working fine now for one reason or another!

not sure if a complete os re-install is practical for you but it may be worth it before you send the mixer alesis for them to have a look.

hope you get it working

thanks

is the alesis really worth it? is the mixer and pre's any good anyways?

i'd agree. i've had mine for a couple of years now and recorded hundreds of full band demos all on the multimix. i'd say the results i'm getting are pretty good.

obviously the preamps aren't £2000 pre's but for a budget mixer, i was quite surprised how good it sounded when i first bought it.

well worth the money i'd say

It was the same with me, but installing the most recent drivers update solved my problem ( do not even install the cd drivers come with it ). I hope it works for you, cause it works allright with mine.

Hey,
You said PC, window vista or xp?
Curious if you had to open the computer and install a card on the motherboard.
Did computer recognize the installation of the card?
Firewire Card may not be installed properly.
You might have to uninstall everything.
Driver might be corrupted.
Download drivers again.
Make sure they are for your version of OS.
Reboot.
Go about the whole thing all over again.

Hope something here helps

well after thinking i'd solved the problem with my multimix the same thing has happened again. having got my macbook to recognise the mixer after re-installing the os on my laptop then installing the new drivers, suddenly the mixer dissapeares from my device menu in cubase. MID SESSION!

I went through the whole process of re-installing my os and drivers again and got it to work. but it happened a third time soon after. Now, having re-installed my os and drivers for the last time, there's now no sign of the mixer at all when i connect it.

can't think of anything else to do. I'm based in th uk so it's gonna be pretty expensive and difficult to have a conversation with some tech support guy in america!

any thoughts or advice would be most appreciated

thanks

Just to throw my oar in here; I've an Alesis IO 26 and it's displaying the exact symptoms of the OPs mixer. The computer just wont recognise the hardware, when I try to manually install the Alesis, I get Windows Error Code 10 - faulty hardware.

I'm returning mine to Thomann ASAP.

Hey to all who are having install issues. I finally got my Alesis IO 26 working by disabling my stock soundcard in the BIOS. Might be worth a shot.
