AKG D5 won't pickup on my computer

I have an AKG D5, I've plugged my XLR cable to a 6.5mm adapter, to a 3.5mm adapter and plugged it straight into my computer. But my computer isn't receiving my voice through my mic? Is that because I'm missing something? It's dynamic so it shouldn't need external power.

The computer picks up that there is infact a microphone plugged in, f7919d97b5.png
but it just won't pick up when I speak into it; nothing comes out.

Dynamic microphones require a mic preamp to boost the low volume/voltage signal to a usable level, chances are the input on your computer (is it marked 'MIC'?) doesn't have a strong enough mic preamp. The OEM soundcards in laptops usually are made wiht a few cents were of components are are not made for music A-D conversion and playback.
Read the sticky threads at the top of this secton of the forum regarding computer recording. An Audio Interface [which will have mic preamp(s)] is what you need.

The computer is defiantly selected to mic input and not line input?

This is not really the way to do it, get a proper mic / computer interface.

Alan.
