AKG C12 VR - what is the VR?

Anyone ever head of this one? KIDDING!

I saw an AKG C12 VR. I've heard how great the C12 is. Is there a variation with the VR designation? Are they all VR's?

Been listening to Alanis' Jagged Little Pill tonight for some example of C12 in action on her vocal, Ballard said he used it on her vocal exclusively.

Anyone have opinions on this mic? Or are there similar mics of this type, quality, etc.?

If getting one used, is repairing it possible?

Are they still manufactured, how far back do they go?

The VR stands for vintage re-issue. But it is not really acurate to call it a re-issue, I am pretty sure they have a completely different capsule and they do not really sound much like an original C12. They are OK mics but certainly not an original C12. I have used the VR several times and never fallen in love with the results.
