AKG C1000's

AKG C1000's.

Has anybody heard about these mics. What are they good for and what are they not so good for? Are they good for female/male vocals and what about drum overheads? What are they crap for?
 
AKG C1000's are very versatile affordable condenser mics.

They are perfectly adequate for a number of applications including drum overheads, acoustic instuments, piano etc. For vocals, they are a good entry level choice until budget allows for upgrade to a better large diaphrgm condenser.

Almost everyone in home recording and most pro studio's that I know of have these mics in there arsenal!!

PS..Akg sells a matched twin pack for around $550 CDN. If you can, spring for the 2-pack.
 
you may also want to check out the oktava mc012's....used for the same type of applications (i think) and alot of folks around here seem to like 'em...do a search on both of these mics and you'll find LOTS of info...
 
I've had extremely good results using it as an overhead, and on acoustic guitar. I've even used it on some vocals, and it works rather well. Good mic.

Re: C1000S for vocals

The nice thing about the C1000S is that you can use a 9 volt
battery for phantom power, The Rode NT3 has the same feature.
For vocals, however, you may want to check out the Studio Projects C1, Marshall's MXL V67, and the Audio-Technica 3035.
Of course these mikes need phantom power. I used a C1000S
until I sold it to a local studio and it sounded pretty good on my
voice. That studio reported that they like it for acoustic guitar
and for voice-overs. The three mikes mentioned above run in
about the same price range and probably will sound better
based on "posts" I've seen.
 
I've got a pair and have cut an entire album with them. Can't wait to get Mic Modeler for even more sounds.
 
AKG C1000 S

Have a pair of C1000 S's and excellent they are too (for the price).
Excellent for percussion, brass/saxophone (in my opinion) and have a very fast and detailed quality, piano is good too . .

I tend not to use them for vocals as they can be a bit on the bright side . . I wouldn't recommend them for bass either.

You won't be dissapointed . .
 
I have a pair of them and like them, however, I have seen many critical reviews of this mic on this forum. The criticism seems to be that they have an exagerated top end. I tend to go to my Octava MC0-12's first, but I have never been dissappointed with the C1000.
 
Thanks for the comments. I have access to two of them. I just wasted to see what the concensus was on them. I would agree with Clement...they are a little bright for vocals...as you will see if you listen to the song.
