that's a bold statement.

ever used a samson r11? it's plain awful on everything, and i wouldn't even go so far as to call it "the worst mic on the planet bar none" simply because it's among the merely 40 or so mic models i've actually used out of the thousands out there. it's the worst i've ever had my hands on, but i'm sure there are worse in existence.

I stand corrected, the worst mic i ever owned.

Wow, thanks for all the responses guys!

I have just messaged the eBay seller and he has told me he will exchange the AKG C1000S for a Rode NT1-A..

Should I do this? The Rode is aussie made, too (where I'm from).

The nt1a is the only LDC I have. I wasn't dissapointed when I got it.

I think its an aussie company selling a chinese mic though. (bits fell off mine when I spoke english to it / I mean, opened the box.) I know nothing about rode but they look chinese. wax off.

Hmm, probably lol.. I have no idea.

But, I think I may go with the Rode NT1-A

I also have the PreSonus Inspire 1394 audio interface.. Cheap one..

Keep note: Everything is cheap in America.. In Australia its double the price for what you guys pay :P

i've got three of the c1000's... are they my go to??? naw... in most cases... but as rami and others have pointed out... way more importanat to get the sound in the room first... then it's a decent representation...

+1 for the Rode NT1-a.

The only condenser I have at home, and it gets vocals and speech done nicely. A wee bit brittle maybe, with a little rasp somewhere in the higher frequencies, but good for the price (£109 UK) IMO. I've never used the C1000s, but I would guess that it's better. I say 'guess'.

Plus they claim it's the 'quietest mic on the planet' or something (very low noise figures).

I think the components are made in China, but it's assembled in Australia, so 'where it's made' is open to interpretation... :)

I have used the original NT-1 for....ummm....pretty much for ever. I bought a used one when my CAD M177 broke. I used it on vocals through an ART DPS and hated it. Once my DPS took a dump, I bought a Focusrite Micpre (cheapy) and found that I loved the NT-1 and hated my DPS. I used it to mic a guitar cab (not really a good experience) and a 12-string and 6-string acoustic (very nice with some post EQ). The vocals really worked out well. The vocalist has a very deep country timbre and the LDC picked up all the nuances. I haven't used the C1000 but for an "all-purpose" mic, I would takt the NT-1A. Of course, I have to admit I really like Rode. The NT3 and NTK are my favorites. The NT-1A is a great starter LDC that will get you some good sounds.

Oh yeah..... +1 for the NT-1A

Woo..Well, I like the look of the Rode NT1-A way more, too.

I have a fake Shure SM58 which I got for $4 brand new. So, I'll use that when my audio interface turns up next week :)

I liked the C1000s more than I liked the NT1A.

Neither is a bad mic, and good technique and discipline are going to pay dividends.

Here's a thought, though. The C1000s takes a battery, and I needed it because I didn't have phantom power available when I started out.

I liked it on snare bottom, too. It would also work for snare top, since it can take some serious SPLs.

Rami's comments are spot on. He's a good drummer and the mics do a fair job of capturing his performances. Are there better mics for Rami? Probably, but the ones he's got aren't ruining his performances. Much still depends on skill and patience. Have both is good supply, or this will become a very expensive habit indeed. :D

If you already have a pair of C1000s, I wouldn't lose them for some 603s or anything. But if you're looking to buy new, I'd look for something a little more versatile.

Maybe a pair of studio projects B1s? Not SDCs, but they take SPLs and I belive have multipattern options, which will keep them in use long after you've found a replacement for the C1000s.

You're not going to hear a monumental difference until you're willing to part with a grand or so.

Thanx, man.

But I still find this way more entertaining:

Worst mic on the planet! Bar None! The first mic I bought-the first mic I sold!

You can't buy comedic rage like that. :D :D :D

I used a C1000 for an hour.

Positives: low noise, can run on battery power if you need that, HF bump good for some things
Negatives: brittle sizzly quality to transients (and not just due to the HF bump), overpriced

Definitely get the NT1-a, I've found it to be a much better mic.

someone sell me one of their crappy c1000's. I need a ride/hh mic.
