akg 451 for $350?

I've got a line on an AKG 451 for $350. Because it's discontinued, I can't find any information on it, and don't know what kind of price this is. Anybody?

a decent price....not bad, actually. The 451 can accomodate a variety of different capsules, so that might influnce your decision....like if it had two or more...hop on it! If it only had the CK5 capsule, for instance...which I believe is the omni one...how bad would you want an omni small condensor? Definately a mic that has been at home in top end studios. Great for HH, OV's and that kind of stuff. I suppose you could do some acoustic stuff with it to. So...all in all...a fair price to the buyer AND the seller....no steal of the century, but a good price.

dob - i know you've read a lot about the c451 from your forays onto other forums, and yes it is a fine mic which has been a studio staple for many years. i have used them a few times recently for acoustic guitar with nice results. if you are specifically looking for the c451 sound, and the one you are looking at is in perfect condition, $350 is a fair price. OTOH, if you are in the market for the best SD condenser you can afford, there are some other choices out there that might be a better investment. i will say that i do like the c451 better than my km184s for most things. email me if you want to talk over the pros and cons of SD condensers.

...it's a great mic, and that price is excellent if the mic is in good shape...
