Anyone considering these little mics should steer clear.
I have owned a set of these for 3 years. I have used them less than a dozen times. When I first got them they had 2 bad capsules right out of the box that needed replacing.
They never sounded good on drums as they sound way to brittle so I didn't use them. They sat in the box in a cabinet except for the odd time they were used on something other than drums.
I tried to use them a month ago and they all went bad within a few hours. Not a sudden faliure just a gradual distortion that got worse. The capsules are distorting. Just to be clear they have not been abused or left out in the cold or weather etc. They have always been stored in a climate controlled environment with plenty of other mics that haven't had problems. Remember these have beeen used less than 12 times always with quality pre amps ( it's a working studio ) and this last time mounted on stands seperate of the drums.
Akg wants $ 310 to fix them. The service manager was confident that these had been abused in some way. I asked her to explain that but she could not. I tried to explain the situation but she would have none of it and basically called me a liar. I won't do business with AKG again.
I'm sure many of you will say I'm just whining and perhaps I am but I believe strongly in customer service. I also believe that a company should stand behind what it sells and if it's a problem you should make it right.
And finally I believe that if someone is selling garbage it should be known.
So now you know.
Thanks
