AKG 414 or Baby Blue Bottle?

...not to mention the gold grille on one side of the 414 which you can use to impress chix with....

Yeah, the latest iteration has 5 patterns. Because clearly your worth as an engineer is determined by the number of polar patterns on your microphone.

Or was it the size of your shock mount?

Well there are plenty of cheap 9 pattern tube mics out there, and the shockmount for the blue ball is pretty darned large:D
