AKAI X-200D problem

I just purchased a used Akai X-200D on eBay. Mechanically it works fine, but I've got a dead channel that I need help resurrecting. During playback, only one VU meter jumps, only one headphone channel is active, and only one output channel (RCA jack) gets signal. Similarly, during recording, only the same channel lays down signal. Can somebody guess what could be the problem and give me some advice as to how to go about fixing it?

First of all, have you tried to use conect cleaner in the monitor switches?. You said that during recording just one channel works, but if you monitor from source, does both channels work or just one?.

It's rare than a channel is dead in source and tape monitor, so my first guess is to clean switches with contact cleaner.
