I was interested in this piece, also....

How much does it cost?

Where can I purchase it?

Has anybody used it?

peace...

Hey SPIN, I found it at MarsMusic.Com and MusiciansFriend.Com for 299.99. They are 299.95 at Zzounds.com.

I'm seriously thinking about buying this unit... Seems really cool. I would like feedback about the feeling of the pads tho.

Peace,

Cool. Thanks, Beathoven.

I am going to run over to Guitar Center (to see if they have any setup in the store). If the do have a unit setup, then I'll give it the "workout". :D

p.s. I will probably do that on Sunday (afternoon).

Weltyone,

It's basically the MPC (Midi Production Center) pressure sensitive pads, 16 of them just like the MPC. Really useful for drums and that type of thing with software or midi up to anything that can transmit midi, perfect if ya don't like using keys to bang out your drums.

If you get the pads you'll want the keys. If you get the keys you'll want some knobs. Knods to the faders. So on and so on...... Playing drums is real lovely on the pads but for playing notes you'll need those keys. If you can afford it having both pads and keys hooked up and operational is nice. Be sure you are gonna use both. Don't waste the cash on something you'll leave sitting around. I got faders, knobs, pads, keys, a joystick, some more pads, a foot pedal, and some more pads. I really only use the keys and the last set of pads. Nothing beats the pads on the MPC for drums and for triggering samples. Try playing a chord on some pads though. The Akai pads and a USB keyboard sound like all you'd need in a computer setup. I'd go for the keys first cuz they do what the pads do and more. Then get pads if you want to get into your drums or samples.

I agree, you can get away with performing your drums with keys, but you would taking on another challenge trying to playing a chord with pads, get a midi controller first and then pop for the midi drum pads, also Roland and Yamaha also makes some contollers, check them all out, what ever you do make sure you do research on the product before you make a purchase ! :)

If you can play or want to learn to play go with a bigger keyboard. More keys will be better if you like notes. Most larger boards provide you some kinda programable controller (usually sliders or a mod. wheel).

If you are into tweaking the sounds and samples then the Oxygen 8 would be better. Knobs are more for techno styles of music and programing sounds. It's also got midi in and out (i think) to send 16 channels of midi to and from you computer. That saves you from buying a midi in/out box. Sounds dope if you got or wanna hook up some external gear without a hassle. Very few keys. Not good it you ever need to play low keys and high keys at the same time.
