I recently bought an "uncertified pre-owned" dps12 and I can't figure out how to use the effects. I'm assuming (I know, risky...) that it HAS the effects upgrade because I can access them and manipulate the parameters but they don't work. I've tried everything I can think of, including consulting the manual...lol.

I'm at a loss here

Thanks for the link. I'm going to have to take some time to sort through all the messages on that board and see what I can find out.

Hi Ron,

Once you get to the akai list click on the files link on the left side of the page, there you will find the dps 12 quick start effects guide. It is a lot easier to understand than the manual. If you use the search function on the main page you will have access to all of the effects questions as well.

Hope this helps.

I don't know about the list. It is awfully difficult to plow thru. I just checked my email and there were 16 messages in no particular order. it seems that if I want to learn anything from other people's posts I'm going to have to take a the weekend to sort thru everything on the message board.

Yeah, now that Ive had 2 or 3 seconds to think about it, that is exactly what I'll do. It's cool , but it'll take some time to become useful.

Ron,

You don't have to receive all of those emails. You can choose not to receive emails. Instead, choose don't send emails I will read messages at the site. When you join the list you will be given a choice. If you have allready joined you can modify your choice. Do you have an acrobat reader? If so I will try to email the effects guide, but you will need to give your email address.

Dave

Yeah, I have acrobat, but I also have that quick start guide. I have a couple of other issues with the dps12 that maybe you could help me out with, though. My email is rjbutchko@yahoo.com

Ron,

Just thought I would mention that I no longer use the effects in the Dps. I prefer to burn a backup cd then mix and add effects on my computer. It is far easier that way. If you have adaptec easy cd creator 4.0, and deepstripper you can convert the data on the backup cd to wav files then mix and edit with a program like ntracks. I can use up to 30 tracks. This is the method I prefer, there is no comparing the benifits of mixing and editing on a computer to doing so on the Dps. (In my humble opinion) If you then want to add effects, no problem it's very easy. In the end my Dps12 is more like a 25-30 track recorder, cause I can use the virtual tracks as well as the 12 physical tracks.

Dave

Cool. I don't have a burner, but I guess I should get one. Mixing to a cassette kind of defeats the purpose of having a digital workstation.
