hey guys,

i have a recording i'm working on....but it has audible background noise...likely to be from the airconditioner the guy said...do you guys know the best way of removing this noise....what frequencies to cut etc? any help is appreciated

Cheers,

Daniel

You could find a studio with a CEDAR (computer enhanced digital audio restoation)system. These are great. They are much more capable of removing noise (without losing too much freq.)than anything else in most studios. The CIA uses it. I know of a studio here that will do it for about 35 bucks.

Good advice. Noise reduction is definitely in the "you get what you pay for" category.

You can get software ranging from Arboretum Ray Gun (less than $100) to Digidesign DINR (around $1000) to the CEDAR stuff (multi-thousand $). The more expensive stuff definitely works a lot better.

If you're looking for short-term (90 days) but FREE, download the demo of Samplitude Producer from magix.com - their NR works pretty well for me, fantastic if you take some time to experiment. You need a few seconds of dead air with just the noise for best results, you sample that and use it as the example of what you DON'T want.

go here

http://usa.magix.com/index.php?id=411

click on professional, then demo. I think you have to register, but the demo is a complete working copy for 90 days.

try it, you'll probably like it... Steve

cant you just cut the air off when tracking?....

if this is after the fact and it cant be re-cut, pardon my ignorance:D
