Hey Al,

Very nice tune too man.

I really enjoyed this.

Haha, someone else who can't write happy songs ;) Got the same problem. It's a pain for me because I'm really really paranoid and the thought of my music upsetting someone gets on me, but at the same time I love my music and it's all I can write lol :)

I like it, but maybe the vocals could be louder (it's just my damn speakers), sounds like a great voice though

looks like the name prorecording.com is for sale. Only 750 euros too!

Toki987--Thanks!

Jagular-- let me know what you think, OK

Pedullist--I think its prorec.com

Guernica--its the Marshall V67 on this. In my little mic test, it got some favorable reviews, so I figured I'd give it another try.

CanopuS--I made a resolution today--I'm gonna write something happy if it kills me!

scottboyher--Thanks man!

Pha'dur--hey--the chance of a lifetime for only 750 euros!

crawdad, that was beautiful!

sounds like ass on these headphones but so does the CSO. i'm gonna burn this to disk and listen in the car tomorrow on the way to work. be back with comments but for now, that was a really nice song. well done.

thanks for sharing.

Put up a rough translation for me, would ya?

OK, take a look....it's in my thread (hehe, I rather bump your thread than mine)

Hi Crawdad,
This is the second tune I've heard from you...

One thing that really sticks out is your songwriting skills...
Damn good stuff man...from hooks to structure...it's all good...
Great emotive lyrics man...performance is excellent to boot

On to the recording :D

vox is great....piano and drums too...sit nice in the mix...
But perhaps a "bigger" piano sound...not that this is bad...
maybe just the tiniest bit of tight and close verb...ya know?
the organ pad seems a bit low to me...except for at the end....
man...the only thing I could think of to add to this would be a pedal steel....would be super cool.
Bass sits nice and follows the kick just right......

Really good song man....
it was a pleasure to hear it,
Thanks,
Joe

That was a real nice production and a nice mix too. Everything sits in there just right.

Very fine tune Crawdad.
Glad you got it out of your system!:D

The vocals on this are something else.
I think you captured that elusive top end air
everybody craves.
They just soar!

A beautiful heartfelt song,I enjoyed it very much.

Pete

erichenryus--Watch out there! It might sound like ass on good speakers...maybe a finer grade of ass!

Pedullist--Great! I'll check 'em out!

Joro--I could go for that piano idea, and the pedal steel--I almost tracked one, but got lazy or something...anyway thanks for the great ideas and comments.

Twist--Thanks!

Museman--I tried my V67 again for the vox. I started digging it on this track. Could have been a good day or something! I'm glad you enjoyed the song. I'm still not sure if its something I should have shared, but its out there now!

There are some subtle pitch issues on the vocal, and they sound a little shaky at the end of some phrases. Other than that, the performance and recording sound very nice.

Which program do you program your drums with? I know you aren't %100 happy with it, but You've got some nice feel to the drums tho, compared to my sequenced beats.

Good ear, Al. Its about time somebody called me on that!

As for the drums, I sequence them in Digital Performer---MIDI out to my Yamaha Motif. Sometimes, I use Battery for sounds. I'm gonna mess with that tonight--nice looooong cymbals there.

I wont call this "pro" because Id have to feel the wrath of Ed.....so ill say this is better than demo quality......

the writing is superb......doesnt get any better.......

but if I were producing this for HR.COM RECORDS, heres what i would suggest.....the vibe of the music doesnt fit the lyric as well as id like....if you took the vocal off, youd never tell that the subject matter was so dark.....that organ pad fit so well and like joro said was pretty buried....id have that starting the first verse with the vocal only setting a mood....the piano and acoustic just sound too happy.....i guess i want it a little more bluesy.....

also, the dynamic from the verses to the bridge and back to the verse isnt a big enuff jump for me....i want that bridge to stand out and tell me "im a bridge"......

now that im done prodcing :D, this is just a great song without a doubt.....i am really really feeling those lyrics.....of all the great lyrics you've written, youve really outdone yourself on this......

"the blues ain't nothin' but a good man feelin' bad"

Ok, much less asslike in my car. I listened on the way into work today and i really like the songwriting here. Nice classic chord progression. Sounds kind of like some of James Taylor's more obscure songs.

Here's my crits.
#1 Sing it again. Performance just didn't sound like the standard crawdad quality I've grown to expect. Just sounds like you need to try it again. Maybe you had a bad night singing, maybe you weren't yet comfortable with the song? Just try it again. It deserves a second shot imo.
#2 Drums might be just a tad dry, especially the toms. But I think it's pretty good for midi drums. Much better than average.

That's it.

Here's the good stuff:

The bass on this sounded really tight in my car.

Also, I noticed your vocal sounded great in the mix, even though I gotta say I didn't like any of the solo vocal recordings that you posted earlier. Shows what I know. It was however lacking in the 'air' department. Not sure if you wanted air or not. I think it sounds fine without it.

The Organ sounded very good to me. Contrary to others, I think you controlled it well actually. It's hard to do with a fake organ. If you pushed it any more we'd probably hear the fakeness of it. As is, it's disguised very well in the mix. Only a couple small places where it gives itself away.

Piano sounded very good. Are you still using pianoverb?

Hey, was that George Jones? Really quality songwriting in the great country tradition. Something about the drums I didn't quite like but I can't put my finger on it. Too dry? Artificial? I don't know but its the only thing I can think to say.

Kramer--I don't know why, but every time I need a little validation, you always seem to show up with something nice to say. Deeply appreciated. And--go ahead and preach to me via PM if you want to. I'd welcome it.

As for the Les Paul Special, I wish you could play my ash body, maple neck Tele with the Joe Bardens in it. Its my favorite guitar of all time, and we are talking a LONG time! (40+years of playing).

Hey man,I just saw this.I stopped getting the e-mail notifications for threads I've posted in so I have to rely on my memory to weed my way back to them.
I would like to get my hands on that guitar!maybe some of your mojo would rub off and I would write a gazillion hit songs!:D

P.S. I just PM'ed you.

I'm not a fan of this type of music. I have to mention that first and foremost. So.. I can't really comment on the songwriting.

The mix is VERY clear and radio-friendly. Just a tiny problem that I'm hearing (or maybe there's something wrong with my ears)... the mix sounds like there's not enough stuff on the right side... until about 2:00 when the organs kick in.

Nice toms and drum mix overall. More than nice, actually. I can't really complain about the mix other than that slight 'leftiness' until the halfway mark. Good vocal performance too.
