Could somebody point me to a web site that might give me some insight as to what this protocol is used for and what applications it might have?

I have some equipment that has ins/outs for this and I don't know what they are used for.

Thanks,
scodu

AES/EBU (Audio Engineering Society/European Broadcast Union) Protocol:
A professional transmission protocol that conveys two channels of interleaved digital audio data through a single, two- conductor XLR cable (for example, a standard microphone cable).

AES/EBU Standard:
Industry professional standard for transferring digital audio between professional- uality audio devices. Stands for “Audio
Engineering Society /European Broadcasters’ Union.” Most AES/EBU connections utilize an XLR-style 3-pin connector to carry two channels of digital audio.

The Audio Engineering Society (www.aes.org) or the European Broadcasting Union (www.ebu.ch) are good places to start.
