Advise needed on Marshall Amps

You did play one right?

If not, I would suggest getting it on eBay used so you can resell for the full value if you are not happy. I am not bashing the THD....I did that myself....bought it off eBay when I found a used one with a Buy it Now price that was too good to pass up. Even after the shipping, I could have resold it for enough to get my money back and cover the eBay fees. There weren't any in stores that I could find to test.

Good luck though, I think you will like it.
 
15 watts will stioll be deafening loud. i have a mesa 22 watt combo... i know... LOL

You could get the Koch pedal tone. it uses a 12ax7 as poweramp tube and i believe it is rated at 1 watt max. you can plug it into a cab,.. may sound silly, 1 watt, but that is a lot of volume!

I agree, my Fender "The Twin" is currently running on 15 watts, it has a watt switch high - low and you can also pull two of the output tubes which gives the choices of 100 watts and 25 watts or 60 watts and 15 watts, we have a gig coming up in a small venue and I'm going to give it a go on 15 watts first to see if I can get away with it.
It's too loud at 15 for the house, unless you go out of the room and close the door with the long lead going under the door.
 
I have to learn by trial and error. I am going to get the Univalve for now- this will be my first tube amp. I just want low volume and long sustains.

Trial and error is the best way IMO if you can stomach the inevitable hit and misses... lol

For serious sustain during solos, a compressor will still help a lot if you don't already have one.
