I'm thinking of buying a used Fostex DMT-8vl . The main drawback is the limited recording time...a max of 12 mins, (irrespective of how many tracks are utilised). There are two digital data ports (one 'in' and one 'out') on the back panel, but the manual only refers to these as being used to save to a DAT machine or MD.
Question...Is it possible to dump the track data from the Fostex's hard drive onto my computer hard drive reasonably quickly, then load it back to the Fostex again later at leisure, so I'm able to clear the Fostex's hard drive immediately for re-use?
If so, will it take long to dump?
Alternatively, are there any other ways of overcoming the 12 minute limit on recording time with this machine? I need to be able to record in a live jazz concert situation, where I can't hold up the proceedings, and I must have 8 tracks.
Thanks in anticipation of your help.
