Good day. I just joined up moments ago and I would like some advice. I'm looking to buy a digital multitrack recorder. After looking around the web and such, I have come across 2 that seem to be in the range of what I'm looking for: the Boss BR1200CD and the Korg D1200 MkII.
I plan to use the unit mostly for recording original material at home, usually by myself or with help from a couple of friends. I am fairly comfortable around computers, and while I may explore that option in the future, I am specifically interested in a stand-alone unit at present.
I have looked at a lot of information on the above-mentioned units and while I generally like them both, I have concerns about each, and I'm wondering if anyone can offer me any guidance on this.
The Korg has drum patterns (good) but apparently you cannot create your own patterns (bad). I have particular things in mind for some of my tunes, and while I won't be wasting days on a super-complex drum pattern, I like to have that flexibility.
My concern about the Boss relates to the whole 16-vs.-24-bit thing. Apparently the Boss only records in 16-bit. The Korg can record in 24-bit, but then it becomes only a 4-track recorder! And if I understand correctly, one or both of these machines "process" the signal in 24-bit bur only record it in 16. Huh??
Advice and/or clarifications are welcome, and thanks in advance for your help.
