Hello all,

I currently have a Rode NTK that I like on my voice and I would like to look at even a better mic to move up to.

What would you all recommend as a move up in a mic, knowing the characteristics of the NTK and that it works pretty well for me.

If there is a negative side to how the NTK is on my voice, I would say it is a little sensitive on sibilance but something I can deal with using EQ.

Thanks all.

What's your budget? At around $1000 US, you should check out the Soundelux U195, Audio Technica 4060, and the Neumann TLM103.

Never tried em, but the new Peluso mics are getting a lot of attention. THey make a U47 copy and a ELAM 251 copy if i recall correctly.

If you got $1500 to spare, go for the handmade Pearlman TM-1. It's magic.

If you like the sound of the NTK, and the sibilance doesn't really bother you a whole lot, then a nice, logical step up might be something like a Blue Cactus.

The other ones these guys mention also sound like good options. The 4060 is a really good mic ... although quite different from the NTK, so if you really like what the NTK does, keep in mind an Audio Technica will go in a completely different direction.

here's a second vote for the AT 4060..this is a truely beautiful capacitor mic!

I'll second the Peluso 22 251. I got one about 5 weeks ago and it is "the" vocal mic of choice and that's over the U195, TLM103, & the AT4050. Good luck.

Thanks all

Boy there are a lot of good mics listed here and I appreciate you all taking the time to offer your opinions, but with all these mics it makes it very difficult to decide
