I've been recording some stuff recently and it seems like the vocals are missing that warmth and vibe like they sound dull and flat... does a mic preamp change this? if so I have a presonus BlueTube but its not turning on so should I go out and buy an ART Tube MP OPL just to replace it for the time being? it's only 60 bucks so it's not that bad... it's not as good as the BlueTube but thena gain my BlueTube doesn't even turn on so I guess it is better in the fact IT WORKS! so tell me wat i can do to add more Warmth and "sweetness" to my vocal tracks. :)

What mic are you using? Are you sure the vocalist isn't just dull and flat? A better preamp can help but it's only one part of the whole chain.

In the $60 and under catagory, you'd be better off with a used dual mic pre called the "Audio Buddy" made by M-Audio.

What specific vocal microphone(s) are you using right now?

using...

I'm using a Shure SM58 haha not that great of a mic huh? but I'm picking up an Octavia Condenser tomorrow...tonight i just got a new BlueTube presonus.

When you select your Oktava, make sure to try out at least three
(or more!) of them, their "quality control" is a contradiction in terms.
I found the MC-012's to be better made than the 219's & 319's.

If you can, return the "Blue Toob", and go for a better mic pre.
In that price range, you'd be better off with a M-Audio DMP3 if you
want a dual channel, or a Studio Projects VTB-1 single mic pre.

Chris

P.S. The VTB-1 is probably still $129 at www.prodigitalsound.com
The DMP3 has been recently sold at Guitar Center for around
$120 (check the "search" function for a more accurate amount).
