adding compression and eq to mixed tracks

how can add compression or eq to tracks via out board stuff? ie. i have a dbx compressor and i want to add compression to the already mixed tracks. i'm using a mkII2488, btw.

i know that you can use the compression within the 2488, but it's only applicable to 4 tracks right? Why did they make it only four tracks, btw? or am i missing something and it's actually more than 4 tracks.

Also, sorry for rambling, but when you use the mic 4x button to add compression and there's an options screen with the ratio and attack ect. the ratio goes from 0 to 100 is that the percent compression? and are the units next to the attack and release (ms)?

i figured out that's it's actually 8 tracks. i guess that's enough...
