I am trying to iron out a transfer problem from my adat recorder to the computer. I did a live recording with the ADAT saturday night. It came out fine, but when the tape tranfers to the computer, I get clipping at the -10db setting on the soundcard, even though the tape never went into the red.

The delta 1010 soundcard has 2 inputs -10 and +4. At -10 songs clip, but sound rich and fat, while on +4 they don't clip, but are thin. I had to turn everything up to 10 on the samplitude mixer because the sound was so low at +4db. I did a take 2 on Linda's mother was a junkie, using the -10db setting. There are a couple of clicks of digital distortion. All the other songs from saturdays session 11-12-05, are at the +4db setting. What I don't get is why this is happening, because the adat didn't go into the red.

I used to use a delta 66 soundcard, and I never had this problem. Thanks in advance! Walter

equipment chain:

condensor mics - 5 - 3 Electro Harmonix pre amps, and 2 pre amps on an Alesis Mixing board - Alesis black face adat recorder- delta 1010 soundcard- samplitude classic 8.1 recording software

you can hear the 2 versions of Linda's mother was a junkie below.

check your 1010 control panel, I think the faders on there default to -12db. Keep the 1010 on the +4 setting and ride the faders up to unity..... shuld fix the problem

thanks for the response lemon tree. I am not sure what you mean by the faders being defaulted to -12db. They only control the monitor mix, not the level of the sound going to the wave file. Am I missing the point? If so, I appologize. I am learning........ Walter

that may well be for a monitor mix, I'm not sure. I use an analog desk for monitoring. I just thought the h/w inputs 1 to 8 on the monitor mixer had an input on how much signal the card took in regarding where the faders were set....why else would they be ajustable on the input? Output for monitoring, yes...I see the point.

No harm in trying it....or me reading the manual again I guess :D

the delta mixer controls the level to tape on the inputs. Do like lemontree said, leave the 1010 at +4, adjust your input level via the software.

First off, thank you so much for giving me your time. I am playing the adat right now, and have the 1010 on the +4db setting, and am on the monitor mix window of the 1010. It doesnt do anything to the wave coming onto the software when I slide the individual track sliders up or down. All it does is turn it down/up on the speakers. I bought this unit used, and have no manual. This coupled with my limited computer skills, can make my head hurt. THank. Walter

If you're talking about not having the manual for the Delta 1010, you can download it on the web from M-Audio's website. I'm fairly new to the 1010 (got it used as well), and I recall that the faders will affect the outputs, but don't recall about the inputs.
