As well as using an old Tascam 1"16trk,I have 3 well worn well loved Blackface Adats with BRC.The head hours are all about 4000 hrs.At about 3000hrs I asked my service guy what to expect in terms of how many more hours before new heads would be in order. He basically said just keep going until it was necessary. He said he recently serviced an Adat with nearly 10,000hrs.It was still up to spec and operating perfectly.I've always kept my Adats regularly serviced and cleaned.I've only used Quantegy tape(they are all much the same from what I can gather)What I'd like to know is,does anyone have Adats with similar or more hours that are having problems.I know the new models claim better D/A s and transports, but I find it hard to change somthing that works so effectively(it also makes me a good living!)

Old Adat's

Moonlightm,

I also have three ADATs with considerable hours on them. 2300 - 3500. I *bought* them with close to this many hours on them for exactly the reasons that you are stating... people say that the original ADATs go forever, where the new ones are more likely to break for some reason or another. I have had very few problems with the decks... I've had a couple connectors go bad (needed to be resoldered) and the heads need to be cleaned regularly or I start seeing problems with it stopping at starting at mark locations, but otherwise they have been working really well. Be proud of those decks :) They seem to sound good and work forever.

Recent ADAT's, at least in the XT's & XT20's have VERY movement sensitive transports. IE DON'T MOVE THEM!!!
